James Canty

James Canty is a musician from Washington, D.C. currently known for playing guitar in the band Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. He is also known for the many punk rock bands he played with since he was a teenager, including Nation of Ulysses (drums), Cupid Car Club (drums), The Make-Up (guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), All Scars (various instruments), and French Toast (band) (various instruments, vocals). Most of these bands were part of the Dischord Records rouster, but other labels such as K Records, Lookout Records, Kill Rock Stars, and Drag City have all put out records by his various bands. Born and raised in Washington, Canty was introduced to the local music scene by his older brother, Brendan Canty (Fugazi). James Canty currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
