James Butts (born 9 May 1950) was an American athlete who competed mainly in the triple jump.
He competed as part of the United States team in the 1976 Summer Olympics held in Montreal, Canada in the triple jump where he won the Silver medal.
Butts is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans.
