James Allsop

James Allsop is the President of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the highest court in the State of New South Wales, Australia, which forms part of the Australian court hierarchy.

Justice Allsop graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts in 1974 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1980. He won the university medal in law.

Allsop was admitted to the NSW Bar in 1981, and was appointed Senior Counsel in 1994. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in Western Australia in 1998.

In 2001 Allsop was appointed as a judge of the Federal Court.

On June 2, 2008 he was sworn in as President of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, replacing Keith Mason.

Allsop is also an adjunct professor at the University of Sydney.
