James Alan Holt

James Holt (b. May 10, 1982, at Shrewsbury, Shropshire) is a journalist and radio news reader, currently the Head of News at MNA Broadcasting. He was named as Weekly Journalist of the Year in 2005 at the Newspaper Society awards. He reads the news on both the Severn for Shrewsbury and the Severn for Oswestry in Shropshire, England.

James Holt grew up in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. At 21 he graduated from the University of Lincoln with a BA Hons degree in Journalism.

James Holt trained at Rock House, the inhouse scheme for Midland News Association. MNA Broadcasting is part of Midland News Association which run the Express & Star and Shropshire Star newspapers, as well as a selection of weekly paid for and free titles in the Midlands. From his first role as a reporter on the North Shropshire Chronicle, James Holt moved to the Shrewsbury Chronicle, becoming News Editor, before progressing to the Shropshire Star. In 2006 he was given the role of Head of News at Mna Broadcasting. On the broadcasting arm, MNA runs the Severn on 106.5 and 107.1 fm, Telford FM and the Wyre.
In 2005 James Holt was named at the UKs best weekly journalist by the British based Newspaper Society for his work on the North Shropshire Chronicle and Shrewsbury Chronicle. In the citation he was commended for his work on an investigation into a £30 million fraud case.
In May 2005 James Holt was one of only a few regional journalists to be given the opportunity to travel to Iraq and interview troops in Basra.
