Awards Received player of the year awards from the Lima News, the Northwest District in Division II, as well as earning the state's player of the year in Division II, Butler was a first-team All-Ohio selection in 2002, 2003 and 2004, He was the 17th recipient of Mr. Basketball in the state of Ohio, awarded annually by The Associated Press to the state's best player.

Jamar Butler (born September 27, 1985 in Lima, Ohio) is an American collegiate basketball star at The Ohio State University, where he is the Buckeyes starting PG. He is the son of Melton and Nancy Butler, and has 4 siblings.

Jamar Butler worked his way into the starting lineup for the final 12 games of his freshman season. He played in all 32 contests for an average of nearly 20 minutes a game. He earned court time with his ability to run the offense, take care of the ball and defense. Butler continued where he left of as a sophomore, running the Ohio State offense with starts in all 31 games in which he appeared.

  1. Jamar Butler finished his high school career 10th on Ohio's all-time scoring list with 2,412 points ... he is Lima's third Ohio Mr. Basketball honoree.
  2. Butler averaged 31.6 points, 8.3 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 2.6 steals a game for Shawnee while shooting 44 percent from the field and 37 percent on 3-pointers as a senior.
  3. He was the 17th recipient of Mr. Basketball in the state of Ohio, awarded annually by The Associated Press to the state's best player.
  4. Received player of the year awards from the Lima News, the Northwest District in Division II, as well as earning the state's player of the year in Division II ... his team finished 17-5 in 2003-04.
  5. Joined Tony Stockman, Damon Stringer, Greg Simpson, and Jim Jackson as the fifth player to win the state player of the year award and go on to play for the Buckeyes.

  1. Averaged 11.3 ppg., and 5.0 apg. in the 2006 Big Ten Tournament.
  2. Led the Buckeyes with 19 points (7-of-12 FG) and 6 assists vs. Iowa in the Big Ten tournament championship game (3/12/06).
  3. Knocked down career best 22 pts. on 8-11 FGs and 5-6 3-ptrs. in win vs. Illinois (2/12/06).
  4. Big Ten Player of the Week (2/13/06) after leading OSU to wins vs. two ranked foes (Michigan/Illinois).
  5. Scored 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting at Michigan (2/9/06). Also had a team-high 5 rebounds and dished out 5 assists in 34 minutes.
  6. Credited with a career-high 4 steals at Penn State (1/21/06).
  7. No. 2 in Big Ten with +2.53 assist/turnover ratio ... finished No. 5 in 3-point shooting percentage (.414/48-116), No. 6 with 4.65 assists per game and No. 7 in free throw percentage (.804/74-92). Had 71 assists and just 27 TOs in Big Ten play.

  1. Made 14 of his last 15 foul shots. Was top freshman foul shooter in the Big Ten (28-32/.875).
  2. In 610 mins. as a freshman, had just 31 turnovers ... 74 assists and 21 steals ... started the last 12 games.
  3. Can rebound from his position, run the break and find the open man in traffic.
  4. Consistently played double-digit minutes and was called upon late in games for his defensive abilities.
  5. Had at least one assist in 29 games, including a career high 6 twice vs. Penn State.
  6. Career high 13 points in win over Indiana Feb. 15.
  7. Scored 10 points in road win at Northwestern, where he made his first career start and played 25 minutes.

Jamar Butler's style of play is smooth and calm. He plays as if he were gliding on ice. He never gets frantic and has a certain calm about him. He leads his team through example and takes charge of the team. His teammates count on him even though he is not extremely vocal. Butler is very respected by opponents and teammates alike.
