Jamai is located at 22.2° N 78.58° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 748 metres (2454 feet).

As of 2001 India census[2], Jamai had a population of 22,426. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Jamai has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 69%. In Jamai, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The first step to famous Chhota Mahadev pilgrimage is supposed to be located in Jamai (the place where the step is located is known as Junnardeo - a part of Jamai). Pilgrims cross seven hills (famously called Saat Pahadiyan) to reach Chhota Mahadev.

1. Patalkot (83 km from Jamai, it is a village situated between a number of hills in a valley. Sun light touches the village only for an hour during the noon). 2. Amoni Samoni (Approx. 50 km from Jamai, famous for its hot and cold water reservoirs - created due to high quantity of Sulpher in the water.) Its also famous for a religious fair held every year on "Makar Sankranti" 14th January.
