Jalakandapuram is located at 11.7° N 77.88° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 269 metres (882 feet).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Jalakandapuram had a population of 14,116. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Jalakandapuram has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 63%. In Jalakandapuram, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.Significant section of the population belongs to the Kannada Devanga community, Vanniyar Community and Nadar Community.

It is a place famous for weaving, especially sarees. Many don't know about this place, but all the major sellers are buying sarees only from Jalakandapuram and two more towns(Vanavasi and Elampillai). These two places are located nearer to Jalakandapuram only.

Lot of local festivals are conducted here reflects Tamilian culture. The festivals are celebrated by the whole town with loads of enthusiasm notable ones are mariamman festivals which are held in March/April, Soorasamharam in November. There are very booming for Modern textile machines and products. Towns total economic depends on Handlooms and Powerlooms and Textile mills. In concerning Agriculture, the main farming on Cotton, Ragi, Cornflower. In milk production it is a great collection area. There are 2 lakes available. One lake is banked by a Soundamman temple and a Kaliamman temple.

Jalakandapuram is also known for some great temples like Kalyana Subramaniya Swamy temple for Lord Muruga,He is considered to be more powerful god. A Maha Kumbhabhishekam held in the month of jun. some of the Photos.

There are 3 temples of Goddess Soundamman, 3 Temples of Goddess Mariamman and one temple of Lord Hanuman are there.
