[edit] Article Reformation

How many people are willing to help rewrite and reform this article to match that of the Halo: Combat Evolved article? --Jrtman 02:45, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Already did since i played the game, i got the whole thing done. Temari of Wind13 01:56, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

This article is seriously being dragged down by that ridiculous list of enemies in the game. It would be good if somebody would create separate articles for the enemies, and for the tools that Jak uses throughout the games (vehicles, guns, etc). I'll try and touch up on the 'plot' section a bit; it seems long-winded, but that won't help much if that staggering shopping-list feel remains in the article. Unless there becomes a good page to put that extra information on, I'll be removing it.RedZionX 12:42, 18 March 2007 (UTC) Who else wants to include information on Jak's haircut. I bought this game and was surprised when his hair was short. I couldn't tell from the cover.

I'm new to the Wikipedia project, but I would love to take a crack at fixing the plot summary, at least. Just let me know how my work can be improved; I seek to better myself. Larrythefunkyferret 06:44, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

I finished. I seem to have inadvertently removed the paragraph system that it had. Sorry about that. I also seem to have lost the links; I can replace some of those, but I would appreciate it if someone else could replace what I might have missed. One more thing, I know for a fact that I left too much fat in the summary, and it's possible I accidentally cut off some actual meat; If a qualified butcher could clean this up, all would be right with the world. Larrythefunkyferret 06:56, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Characters

I just finished revising the characters section. As with the plot summary, the key word is "summary". The protagonists were okay for the most part; I just removed a few sencences that seemed like too much information. The key issue I dealt with was with the antagonists. When I began, there were five characters in the antagonists list, and three were giant fighting robots that acted as bosses. I removed them, as well as FAQ-ish information on the remaining characters in the list. Finally, I added Dark Makers to the list of antagonists, since they are major characters in the story. I would not object if someone added marauders to the list; I didn't because I didn't see them as major characters in the overall story. After a few days, I'll take a look at the gameplay section, which currently consists of a list of guns and cars in the game. Larrythefunkyferret 08:08, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gameplay

Prior to this edit, the Gameplay section consisted of a detailed list of every car and gun in the game, along with specs. This was an impressive list, but I can't help but think that Wikipedia is the wrong place for it, or at least the Gameplay secion is the wrong place. I replaced it with what seems more standard: a basic description of the gameplay mechanics. If anyone dissagrees with this edit, the information is still accesible by checking the article history. If you really want it back, you can copy/paste or revert. Just let me know your reasons; I seek to better myself. Larrythefunkyferret 20:30, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

You're correct to remove game guide content. See WP:VG/GL. Andre (talk) 09:36, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Request for opinion

An opinion was requested here I now offer one. The tone of this article prose-ridden and in-universe. Assume that a person reading this has no idea what a Jak is, and has never heard about previous Jak games or the Jak universe. Look at each part and ask yourself if it is 100% clear that this particular section is about a fictional game that exists in relation to other games (not just in the intro). Remember that you are describing a work of fiction, not telling a story. Also the style is repetitive and boring. Let me pick apart a paragraph -

The missions (what is meant by "mission"?) in Jak 3 are generally either platform-based(platforming) or driving-based. The platform segments involve Jak("the player", Jak is a rendered model, someone else is doing the jumping. "Jak" is ok for story elements, but gameplay is about the player) jumping from platform to platform (that is what platforming means, right?) battling creatures along the way (he battles in both types of missions, right?). For these segments, he is also provided a rifle (does someone give him a rifle at the beginning of each segment?), the functionality of which changes with the kind of ammunition being used (how so?, also maybe "changes depending on the ammunition used"). The car driving ("driving", "car" is implied) segments (segmentsX2) usually involve Jak racing against time (prose, try "have specific time constraints") to complete a mission (that is what one does with missions), while defending himself against other cars (cars attack people?) or giant Metal Heads (?). When not on a mission (missionX3), Jak wanders the streets of either Spargus or Haven City (prose, and what reason do we have to care which fictional city he is wandering in?), searching for someone to assign him a mission (this sentence makes him sound so lame).

I'd do an edit myself, but I know nothing of Jak, and as it is this article does not make me care to. ~ JohnnyMrNinja 06:08, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

This should have a "media reception" topic too. In which cite reviews from various media outlets. Ashnard Talk Contribs 08:55, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Some of those criticisms are a bit nitpicky I think. Andre (talk) 09:37, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Oh, so do I. Very nitpicky. I don't want anyone to think that this is the kind of thing I normally leave on talk pages. This is a direct response to the fact that some editors could not understand the tags placed on the article, and one asked for an opinion. The idea is to point out how every aspect can be pulled apart, and that it's important to think how anyone could possibly see a particular section. As far as what Ashnard said, I have added a Reception section, as well as a Graphics and Development (see Featured Article Iridion 3D), as well as grouped Plot, Characters and Locations into Story. I didn't add any actual content, as I know nothing about this game. ~ JohnnyMrNinja 16:45, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Andre here. He asked if it was ok to remove the tone tag, not if the article sucked. Then again, this is useful critique... Giggy Talk | Review 22:09, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Errol.JPG

Image:Errol.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Removal

the articles should be removed because of the tone —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingrock (talkcontribs) 23:59, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I must not understand official policy as well as I thought. Where does it say that inapropriate tone is a reason for deletion? Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 08:04, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

If it is a reason for deletion, I'll try to improve it, but deleting it because it's too informal seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater (forgive the cliche). Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 08:06, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
