From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jakub Wujek (1541–1597) was a Polish Jesuit, religious writer, and translator of the Bible into Polish.

Wujek studied at the Kraków Academy, then in Vienna and at the Collegium Romanum. An erudite Biblical scholar, he possessed an excellent knowledge of Greek, Latin and Hebrew. His Polish translation of the Bible shaped the style of Polish Biblical language.

In addition to his translations, he published works in dogmatics, but gained particular fame with popular collections of sermons: Postilla catholica (1573-75) and Postilla mniejsza (Lesser Postilla, 1579-80).
