Jakob Freiherr von Hartmann

Jakob Michael Karl Freiherr von Hartmann (4 February 1795 – 23 February 1873) was a Royal Bavarian General of the Infantry.

Hartmann was born into a Catholic wine growing family in the small town of Maikammer, which became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816. Hartmann attended French military schools in Bonn and Saint-Cyr and in 1811, was appointed as a Lieutenant to the "1. Regiment des Großherzogtums Berg." In 1814 he joined the French 27th Infantry Regiment and took part in the disarmament on the Rhine. As a Lieutenant, in 1816, he transferred into the Bavarian army, the topographical office in 1818, and the General Staff in 1824. In 1827 he was promoted to Captain and transferred to the War Ministry. After being promoted to Major he became Adjutant to the Crown Prince in 1842.
Hartmann died in Würzburg, Germany.
