Jacob "Jake" Moon was a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. He was played by Joel Beckett, and appeared from 30 December 2004 as a regular character. His arrival was announced on 20 October 2004,[1] and Beckett was quoted as saying "I've watched the programme since the beginning and I'm very excited to be joining such a successful television institution".[2] Three months after their on-screen arrival, Jake and his brother Danny were axed from the show by producer Kathleen Hutchison in a bid to move away from gangster-led storylines.[3] However, when new producer Kate Harwood took over from Hutchison, Jake was given a reprieve, and took a short break from the show which coincided with Danny's exit.[4] It was announced on 7 May 2006 that Beckett had quit his role as Jake to move on and further his career,[5] and the character made his final appearance on 20 October 2006.

[edit] Profile
Jake made his first appearance on 30 December 2004 with his brother, Danny, as the second cousins of Spencer and Alfie.
He was a witness to the murder of his boss Andy Hunter by Johnny Allen. At that period of time, there was some animosity between Jake and Danny. Jake decided to resolve this situation by taking Danny to the flyover that Andy had been thrown from and explaining to his sibling that it could have easily been him that died. Jake was employed by Johnny for several months after this, along with Danny. Both of them were fired in June 2005 because a reformed Johnny decided they were a part of his former life as a gangland boss.
[edit] Danny's exit
In what was originally to have been his exit storyline, Jake planned to flee Walford with his brother on 8 July 2005 after the feud with former boss Johnny led to Danny setting fire to Johnny's house. Jake knew what Johnny would do to Danny and they planned to escape the area before Johnny could find them.
As Jake was saying goodbye to Chrissie Watts, with whom he was on the brink of a relationship, he saw Johnny taking Danny away in his car. Johnny gave Jake a chance to leave, but Jake got into the car to stay with Danny. Johnny drove them to a forest and locked Jake in the car as he prepared to shoot Danny. Jake kicked through the car window to get to his brother and begged Johnny not to kill him. Jake played on Johnny's conscience and told him to kill him as well because Danny meant that much to him. The episode ended with Johnny raising the gun to them and their fate was not revealed. It was later revealed that Johnny let them go.
[edit] Jake and Chrissie
Jake reappeared on 2 September to finally try to make a go of things with Chrissie. He also told Johnny that he would not be starting trouble, and was there for personal reasons, and his ex-boss allowed him to stay. Meanwhile, Chrissie confessed to Jake that she murdered her husband, Den Watts, whose body had been uncovered from the cellar of The Queen Victoria pub several weeks before. Jake was devastated, but decided his love for Chrissie was too strong to let go, so they decided to make an escape after it became apparent that most people doubted Chrissie's innocence and that it was only a matter of time before vital evidence would pop up to put her in the frame. Both Jake and Chrissie were unaware that the confession was caught on CCTV at Johnny Allen's club, Scarlet.
Grant and Phil Mitchell returned to set free their sister Sam, who had been framed by Chrissie for the killing. They beat up Johnny and stole the video tape of Chrissie's confession, and Chrissie was arrested as she and Jake were at the airport ready to flee abroad. Sam was set free and Chrissie imprisoned. After several visits, Jake promised never to ditch Chrissie, and he proposed marriage to her. Upon his next visit, Chrissie told Jake that she'd been doing a lot of thinking, and that she didn't want Jake to put his life on hold for as many years that she'd be inside. She told him she was going to plead guilty to murder and let Jake go. She made him promise that he'd never visit her again out of love.
After a short break, Jake was in the thick of it again as his great aunt Victoria died in December 2005.
[edit] Danny's return
On March 21, 2006 Jake was brought into the Scarlet nightclub and he was shocked to be greeted by his long absent brother who had returned to look after the club for Johnny, as Johnny was now living away from Walford. Danny revealed he was working for Johnny to make up for what he did before he left Walford. Jake shocked Danny by revealing their great aunt had died just before Christmas. Danny then left Walford again and Jake warned him to be careful wherever he is.
A week later, Jake discovered Danny had been living in Johnny's mansion in Essex, and tracked him down. He tried to persuade Danny to return with him to Walford but Danny said Johnny's home was also his home now. Jake realised Danny had become mentally unstable since his time away from Walford and that Johnny was just using him to do his dirty work. Danny then revealed that he owed Johnny a favour, and in order to gain his approval, he had to do something. Danny then showed Jake a mobile phone recording of Dennis Rickman being killed on New Year's Eve 2005. Jake was shocked when he realised Danny had killed Dennis on Johnny's orders. He tried to stop Danny from doing any more, and Danny knocked him unconscious.
Johnny had another task for Danny. Phil and Grant Mitchell had tracked Johnny down and wanted him to confess to Dennis's murder. When Johnny got them tied up, Danny marched the Mitchells into the nearby woods armed with a shotgun and spade with the intent to kill them. Just as he was about to kill Grant, Jake appeared with the pistol that Danny had dropped during the earlier struggle and, only meaning to shoot his brother in the arm or leg, fired a fatal shot. Danny was killed instantly. Jake buried him in the woods where he died, with only the spade to mark his grave. After Johnny was finally arrested for Dennis's murder, Jake took Johnny's daughter Ruby back with him to Walford.
Since returning to Walford, Jake's behaviour has become erratic. He has become obsessed with Ruby's welfare, perhaps in an effort to divert his emotions surrounding the death of Danny to another individual. Jake has been drinking a lot of alcohol and has considered suicide, however it looks like the efforts of Grant Mitchell have been effective in convincing Jake to live. He agreed to run the club for Ruby until she turned 18 in October 2006.
[edit] Jake and Carly
Jake and Carly Wicks sparked up some sexual chemistry in August 2006. This started when Jake was serving Owen Turner and Carly in the club. Owen became drunk and started to insult Carly after she agreed with Jake that Owen had had too many drinks. Owen came up to Carly but Jake came between them. This ended in a big fight between Jake and Carly and a drunken Owen. Owen then left the club. Jake landed on top of Carly and they began to kiss passionately. Soon after, they started to tear each other's clothes off and then had sex behind the bar. Later, Denise Fox and Kevin Wicks walked in, looking for Denise's daughter Libby Fox. They then left, not knowing that Jake and Carly were behind the bar. However, Jake ended the relationship after a week.
[edit] Sean and Ruby
Jake employed Sean Slater at Scarlet, but regretted his decision when Sean started dating Ruby. Sean started slacking off work with Ruby, and Jake also walked in on Sean with a brewery agent, Karin Jones. Sean's actions implied that he had just had sex with Karin. Jake rightly guessed that Sean was using Ruby, only interested in her money. He and Sean became bitter enemies, but Sean successfully convinced a love-struck Ruby that he loved her and that Jake was out to cause trouble between them. Ruby even told Sean that it was Jake who had murdered Danny - giving Sean a hold over Jake.
Desperate to save Ruby from Sean's scheming, in October 2006 Jake turned to Johnny (who had been paying Jake to look after Ruby since he had been in prison) and told him what Sean was doing. Johnny told Jake he wanted to meet Sean to see for himself what he was like, so Jake gave Sean his own pass for visiting Johnny in prison. On the visit Sean confronted Johnny and ignored his threats, openly taunting him by telling him what he was doing to Ruby and telling him there was nothing Johnny or Jake could do to stop him. Johnny got worked up during this meeting and went to phone Jake to order him to kill Sean. As he lifted the receiver, he had a massive heart attack, and tried to whisper into the phone "Jake... kill him for me". This was misunderstood by his cellmate, Cahill, who presumed Johnny wanted Jake dead.
As Ruby prepared to celebrate her 18th birthday in Walford, she sacked Jake for causing trouble between Sean and Johnny. He finally lost patience with her, told her what he thought of her, took some money from the safe at Scarlet and packed his bags. As he walked out of Albert Square for good, he was confronted by a sinister-looking stranger who asked if he was Jake Moon. Jake has not been seen since, and is presumed dead, although this is uncertain.
