[edit] Jake's Tower
Jake's Tower is a book for older children by Elizabeth Laird.
[edit] Plot
Jake is a young boy who dreams of having his own, tall tower where he is safe and in peace. In his real life though, things are often a struggle because of his mother's horrible and violent boyfriend. In his pretened tower he daydreams of the stranger who is meant to be his father, the man who gave him his fluffy duck and Jake is sure he will never see him again.
[edit] Awards
This book was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal[1] and the Children's Book Award.
[edit] The Inspiration
As Elizabeth Laird explains on her website, Jake came to her out of the blue. In her mind, he asked her to tell his story. When Elizabeth Laird had finally finished it, Jake seemed to disappear.
