Jaipur Literature Festival

The Jaipur Literature Festival is an annual festival of literature taking place in the pink city of Jaipur. The Diggi Palace Hotel serves as the main venue of the festival. The Jaipur Literature Festival is one of the biggest literary festivals in India. It is held each year in Jaipur, Rajasthan during the month of January, usually in the Hall of Audience and gardens of the Diggi Palace property in the city centre.
In 2007, the festival featured Salman Rushdie, Kiran Desai, Suketu Mehta, Shashi Despande, and William Dalrymple. Its 2008 dates were 23-27 January and the following authors attended: Ian McEwan, Donna Tartt, John Berendt, Paul Zacharia, Indra Sinha, Uday Prakash, Manil Suri, Sonia Faleiro, Kunal Basu, Kamila Shamsie, Nayantara Saghal, Sarnath Banerjee, Jeet Thayil, Robin Roberston, Tishani Doshi and others.
Performance and music featured highly on the festival agenda. Paban Das Baul, Shusheela Raman and Anoushka Shankar performed.
The festival directors include the writers Namita Gokhale, Eleanor O’Keeffe, and William Dalrymple [1][2] in addition to regional directors Vinod Joshi and Mita Kapur . It is an initiative of Jaipur Virasat Foundation and is produced by Teamwork Productions.
All events at the festival are free and not ticketed.
