The Jai Prakash University (JPV), is a public university in Chapra, Bihar, India. It was established by the Government of Bihar, in response to the growing needs and long standing expectations of the people of Saran commissionary. It was formally inaugurated in Nov. 1992 by the Chief Minister Sri Lalu Prasad. The University has been named to perpetuate the memory of the great freedom fighter, Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan. The University is recognised by the U.G.C. and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities having jurisdiction spread over the Saran Division, comprising the three districts of Saran, Siwan and Gopalganj. The University covers almost total Spectrum of higher education, with twenty -one constituent college and eleven affiliated colleges, one College of Engineering is going to be established soon. The academic programmes and the administrative functioning of the University has been facilitated in the calm and peaceful atmosphere and 250 acres (1.0 km²) of land has been acquired & possessed for the new University campus. The University campus is about two km away from the main town on Chapra - Patna Road. The University has started several professional job/career oriented course in the year 1999-2000 sponsored by U.G.C. The course will give an opportunity to each student for quality education and professional experience that will test his or her creativity at all levels, to nourish human values and concern for mankind. It is a chapter to progress, holding within it a vision of excellence and a charter for the triumph of the human spirit. The University is committed to promoting educational interests of the members of Scheduled Castes, Schedule Tribes and other weaker sections of the society, in particular and of others, in general.
