[edit] Pre-UCSB
Ambriz played high school soccer at Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, California. He was a 3-time All-Channel League and 2-time All-CIF player, as well as being the Channel League MVP in his senior season on route to the Spartans winning the Channel League title. He currently holds the school record with 31 goals in his senior season and is second in career goals with 59.
Jaime moved on to Santa Barbara City College, then coached by Tim Vom Steeg. He had an outstanding freshman season, accumulating 24 goals and 11 assists for 59 points on the 1997 State Final Four team. However, he had to redshirt his entire sophomore year due to a season-ending injury before play started.
[edit] At UCSB
Ambriz then transferred to neighbors University of California, Santa Barbara and joined up with the UCSB Men's Soccer team. He played with UCSB for three seasons, completing his sophomore through senior years with UCSB.
As a junior, Ambriz appeared in 14 games, tallying 6 goals and 1 assist for 13 points. He was second on the team in scoring, trailing only Thiago Martins despite playing 4 less games.
As a senior, Ambriz appeared in the same number of games (14), but could only manage 3 goals and 6 assists for 12 points. Most of the goal scoring went to emerging star Rob Friend. Ambriz finished third in scoring, trailing Friend and Drew McAthy (4 goals, 5 assists, 13 points), but finishing above other professionals in Nate Boyden (4 goals, 8 points), Tony Lochhead (1 goal, 6 assists, 8 points), and Neil Jones (3 goals, 1 assist, 7 points).
[edit] Professional Career
After graduating from UCSB with a psychology degree, Ambriz sought a professional career. He landed in Switzerland playing with SV Lyss, FC Winterthur, and FC Concordia Basel from 2002 to 2005. With Lyss, he scored 24 goals in his first season, a total that led the league.
In 2006, Jaime traveled back to the United States and signed with the Portland Timbers. The signing was announced on 29 June 2006.[1]
It was announced Ambriz was resigned for the following season on 20 April 2007 on a one year contract.[2] However, he was not resigned for a third season.
Ambriz is currently with the Ventura County Fusion for the 2008 season.
