[edit] Summary
The hill-top fortress of Jaigarth, seen from the Amber palace below. Jaigarth is a testament to Pre-modern Indian military engineering, the fort was never conquered and remained an important center of artillery production for the Kachwahas. According to the historians R.S. Khangarot P.S. Nathawat:'It was this fort constructed by Kakil Dev, which subsequently came to be known as Amber Fort. It was later christned as Jaigarh by Sawai Jai Singh II, who thus had the satisfaction of naming three major places after his own name -Jainagar (the present Jaipur city) Jai Sagar and Jaigarh' R.S. Khangarot P.S. Nathawat, Jaigarh, The Invincible Fort of Amber (1990) RBSA Publishers, Jaipur, page 18.
