User:Jag123/Converting stub templates
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Meta-templates have recently been described as being harmful. See:
- Wikipedia:Meta-templates considered harmful
- Template talk:MetaPicstub
- Wikipedia talk:Meta-templates considered harmful
- Template talk:Sisterproject
- Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/Not_deleted#Template:Sisterproject
Since Template:metapicstub or Template:metastub should not be edited, converting the stub templates to not use meta-templates will not affect functionality but will reduce server loads.
Note: this assertion has also been contested. No consensus has yet formed on the usefulness or harmfulness of metastubs. – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 12:41, Mar 2, 2005 (UTC)
- The harmfullness is in part a simple technical question with a simple technical answer: all templates slow the servers down and meta templates do it more, because they make two database hits per use instead of one, and increase the number of visible delays and out of date versions that people see, compared to not using them.
