[edit] 2007
In 2007 Jade became eligible to compete as a senior gymnast. Jade earned her first medal in a World Cup event in Germany, when she won a silver on the Vault.[2]
Her first major appearance was during the 2007 Pan American Games. During the All-Around finals Jade slipped her hand when performing at the Uneven Bars, falling from the apparatus. She could not supress the tears before the end of the presentation, leading espectators to feel sympathy for her. Jade finished in a respectable fourth position behind US gymnasts Shawn Johnson, Rebecca Bross and Ivana Hong.
The next day she competed at the Vault finals, earning the gold medal. She was the only non-American female gymnast to win a gold medal at the 2007 Pan American Games. Jade also won a silver in the Team Competition and a bronze in the Floor final.[3]
At the 2007 World Championships, Jade won a bronze medal in the Women's All Around. She also qualified to the Team, Vault and Balance Beam finals.[4] Jade helped the Brazilian team to reach an unprecedent fifth place in the Team Finals, behind China, USA, Romenia and Italy.
In October 2007 Jade took part in one more World Cup event, this time in Stuttgart, Germany. Jade earned two silver medals, one on the Vault and the other one on the Floor.
At the end of the year, Jade performed the vault "The Cheng" in a Brazilian competition. Since Jade can also perform an "Amanar" vault, she has become a serious contender for the Olympic Vault title.
Also, in 2007 Jade became the Senior National All-Around Champion, defeating 2006's champion Daniele Hypolito.[5]
[edit] 2008
Jade's first participation in an international competition in 2008 was during the World Cup Cottbus event. Jade got two silver medals, one on the Vault and the other one on the Floor.
In May 2008 Jade took part in another World Cup event, this time in Moscow. During the Vault finals Jade was expected to perform "The Cheng", but instead she performed a double twist and a Podkopayeva in layout position. Nevertheless, Jade was able to earn the gold medal, tied with Russian gymnast Anna Pavlova.[6]
