[edit] Speedy deletion

Hi Jack, please read WP:CSD before placing the speedy delete tag on pages. Some of those you have tagged do not fit the criteria. If you want to debate the importance of borderline articles you can place them on WP:AFD. Happy editing. Leithp (talk) 09:27, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

G'day Jack, I'd like to echo User:Leithp's concerns here. I just deleted a page you tagged for speedy deletion as nonsense. Now, it turns out that this particular page (which contained the text "I'll finish this later") was still speediable, but it may not have been. It's great that you're doing work to try to clean up the crap that occasionally gets flung in Wikipedia's direction, but could you please, in future, ensure that you take more care before tagging articles for speedy deletion? Thanks, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 09:16, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Australia stuff

Hey Jackk, I guess you've seen the Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board? You should check it out. And your user page is looking a bit bare. :P Maybe you should add Category:Wikipedians in Victoria to it. :) pfctdayelise 14:59, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Volcano move

Hi - I have moved volcano back to its original article location. Please do not move a major page without discussion and consensus on the relevant talk page. Thanks, Vsmith 02:21, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Channel 31

Hi. The info in particular that I noticed you deleting without moving elsewhere was about the previous owners of channel 31 Sydney losing their licence due to infringements of their conditions. Andjam 11:17, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

Why not just highlight the fact that the stations are independant in the existing article rather than reverting (and blanking the contributions I made by the way). The article begins "Channel 31 is the frequency reserved for community television stations across Australia." The stations can't be that independant content-wise if C31 Adelaide at least has programs from Briz 31, Channel 31 Melbourne and Imparja. - Diceman 12:50, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sean Hannity

Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you.<->Refusetobesilenced 21:32, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

    • Sorry. Took a second look, and found you weren't the one adding biased comments to the page. I am again sorry. Thanks for helping to clean up Wikipedia! <->Refusetobesilenced 21:34, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Nsw police officer protects australian.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Nsw police officer protects australian.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. —Gabbe 20:39, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of 'liberal wikipedians' category

[edit] WP:AFL

Hi mate, was wondering if you're interested in taking a look at the new WikiProject AFL we have up and running. Would be pleased with your input, Rogerthat 03:25, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Abramoff

Jackk - I noticed your edit on Jack Abramoff, which I reverted with my edit. Please join the discussion on the talk page as the text which you modified was an attempt at compromise by Stolencdz. The questions of POV are a bit complex, and I don't think you're correct in categorically stating that "There is no allegation of corruption surrounding democrats in this affair." -Kwh 02:23, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District

I noticed that you hid a massive amount of text on the CUMTD article. I've reverted the change, as no justification was given in either the summary or on the article's talk page. In the future, please make a point of discussing drastic changes first before making them with no explaination. -- Thesquire (talk - contribs) 03:00, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Stuart_varney.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Stuart_varney.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 22:31, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Alumbra has been proposed for deletion. Please see the article for details. NickelShoe 17:10, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Non-profit

Hi,

I notice your suggestion at the Channel 31 article in an edit summary that 'non-profit' is generally used in Australia rather than 'not-for-profit', which you say is US-centric.

Both of the terms have the same meaning in Australia and the US. There is a very important difference between them, though only lawyers and Commerce graduates might be able to tell you why it's important.

The individual C31 stations are incorporated as not for profit entities. This does not mean that they can't or won't or shouldn't make a profit. 'Not for profit' has a specific legal meaning, being that the assets of the entity cannot be distributed among the members. That's precisely the opposite, of, say, a corporation that is limited by shares. So it's not a regional variation in usage. - Richardcavell 13:10, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Meetup in March

I see that you are listed as a participant in the WikiProject Melbourne. If you are a Melbourne resident I would appreciate your views on the suggested Meetup in March . Please give some indication of your interest, or otherwise, in the idea. Even a simple "No thanks" with your user name would be welcome and assist in assessing the level of support for a meetup. Thank you.. Cuddy Wifter 06:30, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of euphemisms

Hi, I see you tagged List of euphemisms as Unencyclopedic but I don't see anything on the talk page to say which of the guidelines it violates. It seems reasonable to move actual euphemisms out of Euphemism into a list as is done for List of words having different meanings in British and American English for example. [edit] Image Tagging Image:Keith olbermann.png

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Keith olbermann.png. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stanley011 18:19, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Poncke Princen/Johan Cornelis Princen/Johan Princen

I have just created this article, after working on it for about THREE WEEKS and immersing myself in the subject. The choice of calling the article by the nickname was NOT accidental. That WAS how most people who knew him called him and also how most people who did not know him personally called him. Political friends and political enemies in both Indonesia and Holland called him "Poncke" except for really formal occasions. Also, if you take a look at the links to the Dutch and Indonesian Wikipedias (the two countires where he was known best) they both called the article "Poncke Princen". So, I would thank you to respect a little bit the judgement of somebody who worked very hard on this article.

By the way, if you want to insist on the real name, NOBODY ever called him "Johan Princen". I have gone thorough dozens of documents in English, Dutch and Indonesian (which I don't read, but this much you can make out without knowing the languge). Nobody ever used this formulation. If they were formal, they were formal to the end and then always called him "Johan Cornelis Princen", never a SINGLE occasion where the "Cornelis" was omitted.Adam keller 00:56, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] FastMail

A tag has been placed on FastMail, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. A ecisBravado 15:23, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Connex melbourne logo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Connex melbourne logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] The White Rose Society (website)

A tag has been placed on The White Rose Society (website), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because it is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on Talk:The White Rose Society (website). Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. RJASE1 Talk 18:14, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Channel31melbourne c31 logo.png

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Channel31melbourne c31 logo.png, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Channel31melbourne c31 logo.png fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

New PNG version is now used in Article. Image orphaned.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Channel31melbourne c31 logo.png, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. [edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Angie_coiro.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Angie_coiro.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 12:38, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Rodfraser.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Rodfraser.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Dgeneration_dvd.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dgeneration_dvd.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 14:37, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:The late show crowe as shirty.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:The late show crowe as shirty.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:20, 24 February 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --LAX 18:20, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Buseylogo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Buseylogo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:26, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image:C-130_crash_in_tehran_casualty.png

I have tagged Image:C-130_crash_in_tehran_casualty.png as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Det sgt bluey hills.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Det sgt bluey hills.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.
