RE: The Hound Leaked?

When I removed the info the first time, I felt like mentioning that it shouldn't be on Wikipedia anyway, but I didn't incase I was wrong - now that you mention it, I think it's best that we don't include it on Wiki... I'm sure I saw info like that removed elsewhere as well =D ≈ The Haunted Angel 23:11, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi

Sorry about that. I was exploring Wikipedia's features and the my preferences caught my eye and I clicked on it and it mentioned something with a signature, so I copied my signature coded and added it to the box and I typed in ~, the four that you need and some other code was added. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Incubus9.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Incubus9.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:38, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:CoheedBandMembers.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:CoheedBandMembers.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 23:26, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Isotope 217

You reverting my edit without discussion is not helpful. NFC is a content guideline—it is not policy. WP:FUC, which is an official policy, states the using the images on the Isotope 217 article is not a fair use violation. Guidelines are not policy, but are merely recommendations. I've addressed my concern about WP:NFC contradicting WP:FUC on the talk page. Please revert your own edit, as I can't or I will face a 3RR ban. Thank you. —Christopher Mann McKaytalk 20:18, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

I was following the guideline, which most articles follow. Could you please quote me the exact text you are referring to in WP:FUC? Thanks, — jacĸrм (talk) 20:24, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Advanced Game settings.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Advanced Game settings.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:24, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, I'm talking about making a navigation bar for the top first, so let me know what pages you want on it (talk, contributions; look at mine) and what images you want them to be, choose them from here. If you can't be bothered choosing, let me choose, and I'll choose the most appropriate pictures I can for them. — jacĸrм (talk) 03:08, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Go ahead and choose the pictures- What I'd like on the navigation bar would be my talk, my contributions, Sandbox, email, userpage, whatever you think I would like on it. Sorry this message seems so rushed, I gotta hurry and get somewhere :) --PolarWolf ( grrr... ) 18:39, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Image tag

Thanks for addressing the issue although I remain of the opinion Betacommandbot is in error. It would be helpful if its notifications actually included a template of what is required. A major failing of Wikipedia is the assumption its members all possess psychic abilities. 23skidoo 22:36, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

I agree, it's rather confusing, like when I got my first notice from it. As long as you read WP:NFCC#10 carefully, you will see what is missing, as a fair-use rationale was missing from the image in question. The bot is not in error, just being a bit of a perfectionist! — jacĸrм (talk) 22:38, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Never mind. When betacommandbot started spamming me a few months ago I decided to no longer support images on Wikipedia and just let any of mine die as needed. The rules change every 6 weeks and the fact it's even remotely confusing is unacceptable. I revived interest at the request of the NovelsWikiProject but I just informed its leader that I will no longer be paying any attention to these sorts of things. If someone wants to put in the effort, they're welcome to. Otherwise I'm done with images. 23skidoo 22:41, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
I do think it's fair, and you can surely see that? If Wikipedia does not own the image, we must make sure we are saying why we are using it fairly. You are an admin, you should be able to keep up with a simple rule like this! I agree it's confusing and annoying, but once you've just typed a few words on the rationale, it's fine, and you won't be bothered again. — jacĸrм (talk) 22:43, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Having agreed it is "confusing and annoying", we are obviously doing ourselves no favours at all if we are "cheesing off" even our most loyal and hardworking supporters. Like all large co-operative ventures the risks are high that the bureaucracy will now "grow and grow and grow" which must by avoided or it will kill itself. I can see the aim of these bots, however; when some user have been swamped by 50 or more requests for rationales to be filled in a mere handful of days, you can see that even the most industrious and careful editors just give up. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:53, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
I agree. Do you know how long this 'rule' has been around? That all images must have a rationale as well as an image tag? I saw somewhere a discussion about changing it to "images uploaded after -whichever date- must contain an image tag and fair use rationale or they may be deleted after seven days", which I agree is a good idea. Oh, and, can you tell me what you meant when you said "we are obviously doing ourselves no favours at all if we are "cheesing off" even our most loyal and hardworking supporters" - do you mean the bot sending them tens of image notices? Or saying the policy is annoying and confusing? — jacĸrм (talk) 12:39, 31 October 2007 (UTC) — jacĸrм (talk) 12:37, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, the Bot's and their associated proponents messages to editors. This was a continuation of the subject - I wasn't in anyway getting at you. Far from it.! I can't remember about the age of these "rules" I get the impression it's about a year though. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 12:45, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
And I'm not "skidoo", I just joined in. I think the damage to his efforts / morale has already been done though. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 12:47, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
It is very off-putting to receive those messages, I agree. I recently saw an editor who got very distressed, receiving over 50 messages from the same bot. If one has uploaded lots of images to this project, and you receive 50+ messages saying they may all be deleted, and that they are incorrectly summarised, it is rather offputting, especially if these images have been around for a long time, and the policy on image descriptions changed without the using being aware of those changes. See The proposal which calls for a slight change in some policies, but as you can see, it hasn't got far for an important subject, but they seem to agree that Betacommandbot is doing a good thing, which I guess it is, but it is still really off-putting to receive many messages of this kind. — jacĸrм (talk) 12:54, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
