[edit] Thanks for the welcome Longhair

Thank You for the welcome Longhair, I appreciate it, and as for editing, I do enjoy it. Here is a list of some pages I've created (you can view more on my User Page):

[edit] Jeremiah J. Sinkie

Hi there, welcome to Wikipedia. The bio page you created for yourself (Jeremiah J. Sinkie) is actually not acceptable for inclusion on Wikipedia — instead, the information you have out there should go onto your user page instead. (The bio page has been listed on Articles for deletion, and you can see the listing here.) Again, welcome, and hope you keep contributing! —Cleared as filed. 09:12, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cleared as filed.

Thank you for telling before you deleted my page, it took me a while to create it. Sorry it took so long for a response, but I was working all day today. I have moved all of the information to my User Page, please let me know if there is still a problem with it. I did notice that my page was called a "Vanity Page" and I was wondering if there was anything offensive or unacceptable on it, Thank You Jay 01:51, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi Jay — there's nothing offensive or unacceptable with it being in your User Page. (It's only a "Vanity Page" when it's in the main Wikipedia main space, so that it looks like any other encyclopedia article. User Pages are "vanity pages" by definition.) Good luck and happy contributing! —Cleared as filed. 02:33, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
All right, thanks for the info. Jay 02:42, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re. Kingdom Hearts OST

To be honest, I'd completely forgotten that there was a US version of the soundtrack. So I guess you're right, since this is the English Wikipedia we should use the English title. So I guess if a US version of the KH2 soundtrack comes out, the Passion songs should be changed to Sanctuary. Geg 17:55, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:RugerBlackHawk-BluedFinish.jpeg

Thanks for uploading Image:RugerBlackHawk-BluedFinish.jpeg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you have questions about copyright tagging of images, post on Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags or User talk:Carnildo/images. 03:08, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Images

The problem with the images is that you (or someone else) put the template tag {{albumcover}} on them, which classifies them as "copyrighted but fair use" images, like all the commercial album covers out there. Fair use images cannot be used in the user space. Since you created them and own the copyright, you should put a different template tag on them: I'd recommend {{GFDL-self}} or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#For image creators for more details. Good luck! — Catherine\talk 20:17, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

There's no need to re-upload an image when you need to retag it; just click on the image to get to the Image description page, then click "edit this page" like any other. Replace the {{existing tag}} with whatever your desired new tag is, and save. Since you have already re-uploaded, I will delete the old images for you.
You put a box around your text by starting a new line with a space -- that tells the software to display it as "preformatted text", exactly as you typed it, without line wrapping or any other formatting.
Like this. See?
When writing on user talk pages, it's common practice to put your comments at the bottom of the page, under a ==New header between equals signs, like this==. You can do this quickly and easily by clicking the "+" tab at the top of all talk pages, which will create a new section at the bottom for you. Hope that's helpful; happy editing! — Catherine\talk 20:51, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Where'd You Go - Front Cover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Where'd You Go - Front Cover.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Page deletion

Your articles DJ Cheapshot, SpyTech Records, and 4-Zone (rapper) were speedily deleted by User:Tawker, citing criteria A7: "Unremarkable people or groups/Vanity Pages. An article about a real person, group of people, band, or club that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject. (See Wikipedia:Deletion of vanity articles for further guidance on this criterion)." I would suggest you review that guideline and Wikipedia:Notability (music). I'd tend to agree that these weren't entirely appropriate for speedy deletion -- they should have gone through Wikipedia:Proposed deletion or Wikipedia:Articles for deletion instead -- but I'm sorry to say I don't think they'd have fared too well there, either. If you can provide verifiable evidence that they meet at least some of the guidelines on Notability (music), then your best bet would be to take them to Wikipedia:Deletion review and see if they will agree to have them undeleted there. Good luck! — Catherine\talk 19:29, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Sq-lantern-justo-awards-05.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sq-lantern-justo-awards-05.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Alyson Michalka - 03.jpg)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Alyson Michalka - 03.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:Sq-lantern-justo-awards-05.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Sq-lantern-justo-awards-05.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Note that any unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 03:47, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

If you're going to choose to ignore me, I'm going to have to go with the same compromise I've had with people before on this issue. It's going to be pop rock, not pop/rock. 69.145.123.171 Hello! Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 07:12 (UTC)

[edit] Creations

Sorry, but I was not aware of a source. I just removed her from that category because I saw nothing in the article to support it. This is a perfectly fine source [1] (though I am stunned that anyone born in California in 1989 would say something like that - but never mind). You should definitely restore it, and put something in the article about it, using this source, for future reference. Cheers, Mad Jack 20:52, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fixing vandalism

Ask them for citations!  :)

The best way to handle real vandalism is just to keep reverting it; vandals get bored if the crap they add disappears within seconds or minutes. Slightly frustrating for you, but we really believe that soft security is more effective (and less confrontational, and less rewarding to the vandal) than other types of defense. I will add these pages to my watchlist and help revert any damage that is done.

Other options depend on whether it's the same username or IP address adding vandalism repeatedly -- if so, they should be warned to stop (you can do this yourself using the templates at Wikipedia:Vandalism), and if they persist, they can be blocked -- list them on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.

If it's an array of different names/IPs, and if the vandalism is frequent and sustained over several days, the page can be temporarily semi-protected -- see Wikipedia:Requests for page protection.

Thanks for letting me know about the problem! — Catherine\talk 04:11, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Well how about we split the mixtapes in half. The only problem is that I dont really know how to upload images legally so I can't do the mixtape covers. But that's the only problem I have. That would be cool. thanks

An editor has nominated Lupe Fiasco & DJ WunderKidd: A Real MC, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lupe Fiasco & DJ WunderKidd: A Real MC and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). [edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:NeedForSpeedMostWantedSoundtrackCover.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:NeedForSpeedMostWantedSoundtrackCover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:23, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:StylesOfBeyond-RazorTag(Mixtape)-(Original).gif

Thanks for uploading Image:StylesOfBeyond-RazorTag(Mixtape)-(Original).gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 07:56, 16 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 07:56, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DJ Cheapshot Presents... Megadudical! EP

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on DJ Cheapshot Presents... Megadudical! EP, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because DJ Cheapshot Presents... Megadudical! EP fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Deletion requested by the owner of the material (DJ Cheapshot)

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting DJ Cheapshot Presents... Megadudical! EP, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 01:07, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Commercial use of Image:DJCheapshot.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:DJCheapshot.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:DJCheapshot.jpg has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[2][3]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:DJCheapshot.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 01:12, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mixtapes

Hi JackSparrow. I noticed you created a lot of mixtapes relating to Kanye West. My only issue with mixtapes is they can never expand beyond a track list. Unlike albums, they can never have sales, charts, production, reviews from music critics etc. You may want to see this massive Afd of Snoop Dogg tapes at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Welcome to tha chuuch mixtape vol.1, G-Unit ones at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/All Eyez On Us (G-Unit Radio Part 5) and Game tapes at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Re-Advocate. I will probably WP:PROD the Kanye West ones. If you have any objections about this, feel free to leave a message. Cheers. Spellcast 10:21, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use disputed for Image:Image:DJ Z-Trip - Shifting Gears (Edited).jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Image:DJ Z-Trip - Shifting Gears (Edited).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:45, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pimp userbox deletion

Someone proposed the pimp userbox (that I made) that's on your userpage for deletion at [[4]], even though it's a userbox (and therefore doesn't have to be encyclopedic) and does not meet any userbox content restrictions as per Wikipedia:Userboxes#Content_restrictions. Please help me prevent it from being deleted. SteveSims 00:40, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Those thin skinned hypocrites

I think when you call someone a "hypocrite" and that they're "causing more trouble arguing against an innocent joke" when that person has clearly said they find it offensive that Wikipedia editors have created a "this user is a pimp" user box, then apologize by saying it just seemed so "completely ridiculous" to you, you're not being particularly considerate. I'm not a complete moron. I'm not a cultural idiot. And I don't appreciate being called either or being told I'm a hypocrite or causing trouble. This pimp user box did nothing to ameliorate the intended meaning of the word. It is divisive. It doesn't belong on Wikipedia. KP Botany 19:20, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

So, you're basically sticking to your argument that, "they have no right to invade (user pages) according to Wikipedia's rules, unless something actually illegal is taking place on there (and this is obviously not)." There is nothing whatsoever on Wikipedia that supports your argument, and that wasn't the reason the user boxes were brought up, but rather their specific violation of Wikipedia policies. And now you've added calling me "mean" to your offenses, so stop apologizing, because I'm tired of you using "apologies" as an excuse to continue insulting me. KP Botany 00:00, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
"You can respond to this if you want, as I am rather looking forward to it, but I will not be speaking to you directly anymore." They weren't actually apologies to begin with, as each one was accompanied by an insult. If you really mean to apologize to someone you should stop insulting them first not get one more jab in with each apology--you can't take back something that never existed, as your apologies were simply excuses to show me in a poor light; but for not speaking to me directly anymore I thank you and will do the same from%2

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Petrified - Remember The Name-USPromoCD.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Petrified - Remember The Name-USPromoCD.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] AfD nomination of Terraform (album)

An editor has nominated Terraform (album), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Terraform (album) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:59, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] maintenance tags

I noticed that you removed the maintenance tags labeled {{Music-importance}} from a series of articles (all of them singles or EPs by the musical act Styles of Beyond). Please see Wikipedia:MUSIC#Songs: Most songs do not merit an article and should redirect to another relevant article, such as for a prominent album or for the artist who wrote or prominently performed the song. If you have a specific explanation for why each of these singles or EPs is notable enough to break from the general rule, I think it would be more helpful to add that explanation to the articles themselves rather than remove the maintenance tags. Without this information, the articles are not notable and are in danger of being nominated for deletion, or being redirected to the either the appropriate album or the main Styles of Beyond page. Thank you, --M@rēino 20:03, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

  • You make some good points, and I certainly don't want to imply that Styles of Beyond is not a notable musical act. But it hurts the case for notability that virtually all of these articles either have no sources, or only cite the website of someone affiliated with the group. It makes it very difficult to distinguish these articles from those that a non-notable group might put up on Wikipedia to try to get some free advertising. These songs might be leagues ahead of, say, Hey Baby (No Doubt song) artistically, but at least with that song's article, it's clear that the song had enough of an impact to acheive a critical mass so that there are enough sources, and potential editors familiar with the material, to maintain a healthy article. --M@rēino 01:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Re this edit. The notability guidelines at WP:MUSIC specifically call for substantial coverage in reliable, third-party sources.
"Substantial coverage" means that a mere mention doesn't cut it (not the issue here).
"reliable sources" goes to the core of the issue. Myspace/youtube/friendster/wikipedia/etc. are virtually never reliable sources, since almost anyone can post almost anything on them. Imagine you put together an "album" in your livingroom one day. How hard would it be to add it to myspace? Pretty easy. Now create a myspace account showing that you are Napoleon. Also easy. Suddenly, though he's quite dead, we have an album by him. Ok, now try to get an article on that album in Billboard, NME, etc. Good luck -- you'll need it.
"third-party" is also pretty important here. Yes, every band thinks their every album/mixtape/concert/trip to 7-11 for nachos is notable. Their record labels tend to agree. Even if we could prove that that myspace account belongs to the band, it wouldn't do the trick.

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:DJCheapshot&DJMarshallBarnes-PartyMouth!(Mixtape)-(Original).jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:DJCheapshot&DJMarshallBarnes-PartyMouth!(Mixtape)-(Original).jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:10, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
