I've found the Jacques de Vaucanson article by accident, but, having read a book on History of Technology some weeks ago, I've decided to check some info on it. So I've put the note about slide rest lathe. The complete source for the book is: Derry, T.K. & Williams, Trevor I.: A short history on technology. From the earliest times to 1900, Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1960. --masterofnothing 15:38, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
