[edit] Question about Car used in 1963 British Saloon Car Championship
These seems to be some disagreement in wikipedia about the 1963 BTTC title... in the List of BTCC champions it shows the 1963 winner as driving a John Willment Automobiles, Lotus Cortina. On the Team Lotus page it says that Jack Sears drove (a Lotus Cortina) to the British Touring Car Championship title, a feat repeated by Jim Clark in 1964. But on the Jack Sears page it says that he regained the title in 1963 driving a seven litre Ford Galaxie. So which is right? What car (Cortina or Galaxie, or maybe different cars in different races?) was used and what team (Willment?) did Jack drive for? --Xagent86 04:45, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- The verifiable source for the claim on this page is HistoricRacing.com. According to that source, it was Willment he was driving for. "Four class wins in a Lotus Cortina" are also mentioned, but the context and race series is a little vague.
- Found a second page: GPlegends.plus.com. A bit lucky, since it looks like only 1963 out of the "Jim Clark era" has been done. According to that page, "Jack Sears won the B.R.S.C.C. Saloon Car Championship for Willment and Fords, driving a variety of cars including a Galaxie and a Lotus Cortina as well as his initial mount, a 1500 Cortina GT." From the links to the individual races, it looks like after the Galaxie was introduced at Silverstone, he stuck with it except for two rounds near the end. God, those races looked like belting good fun compared to the stuff we have now... --DeLarge 13:17, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

- That was quick - well done! I've updated the page to include the different cars and added a footnote with link to the fp.gplegends.plus.com site. If you want to update it further, change the emphasis, or add new sources, please be bold and do what you think best. Yeah, you're right about racing in the old days... although Jags and Galaxies was a little bit before my time... --Xagent86 07:55, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
