[edit] Brohemian Rhapsody

Is that Jack Black in Brohemian Rhapsody?

[edit] Reverted

reverted to an older version because of vandalism MikelZap 03:34, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Defamer article

From the Defamer article:

Hours of tireless research and a few friendly e-mails from Black’s publicist have disabused us of the notion that any onanistic camera work exists, and that the Wikipedia submitter is having some fun at the actor’s expense. ($9.99? Nothing that good ever happens to us.)
Yes, our thoughts on the truth-telling skills of celebrity publicists are well documented, but there’s no good reason to be skeptical in this instance. Black doesn’t even have a website (Tenacious D’s notwithstanding), unless he’s moonlighting in Arizona real estate, and the flack notes JB’s been in New Zealand shooting King Kong since August. While we’re pretty sure masturbation is legal in New Zealand, we imagine it would be exceedingly difficult to use one of Peter Jackson’s expensive movie cameras to shoot this kind of DVD bonus feature for the fans.

[edit] Another Jack Black

There's a problem, there are two jack blacks. One that is an actor, and one that wrote the book You Can't Win

Yes we know, that's why this article is called Jack Black (actor)

[edit] Dead Kennedy's

Jack Black uses almost the same set of facial expressions as lead singer, Jello Biafra, of the Dead Kennedy's. Find some live footage, you'll see what I mean.

[edit] Req. Image

Hi, the image on this article is fairly OK, but we need a bigger (and better!) one. It's on Wikipedia - Requested Images --Kilo-Lima 00:40, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jack Black - another movie appearence

Jack Black was in The Neverending Story 3 (1994). He played the character Slip, Leader of The Nasties. source - www.imdb.com

[edit] Anchorman

He also had a small role in Anchorman (2004)

That role is uncredited

[edit] Picture

Can we get a better picture? Something from Tenacious D, perhaps. Seems more fitting, given what hes better known for.

I agree, especially since that's what he most typically looks like anyway.

[edit] X Files

I'm watching the X Files now, with this lightning boy, and he looks like the owner of some video arcade in this episode. I'm not sure, but it sure looks like him. Not sure to put it in the article though, this is a very old episode and I'm not sure if it's exactly him.

Yes, he takes part in some episode of "The X Files" (episode # 3.3: "D.P.O.", acording to The Greatest Jack Black Site in the World, but I personally don't remember to have seen him, though it's possible, I didn't know him at the time when I've probably watched the episode. --Tzeck 11:10, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

I do confirm so, I've just watched the episode and he was in the credits

[edit] Tenacious D

This makes no mention of perhaps the single most responsible role for his current stardom, and that is the one of himself in the HBO show "Tenacious D."

So tell us about it! The great thing about Wikipedia is that anyone, yes anyone, even you, can add information. I know next to nothing about that, so why don't you enlighten us? --Jacqui M Schedler 04:43, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Projects in the mill

So, does anyone else have information regarding Black's upcoming projects? It feels unfair to single a couple of them out by name in the article, when there are 5 or so in the pipeline for the next two years. --Jacqui M Schedler 05:09, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

With respect, an encycopedia doesn't give out this kind of information. People should see links to his IMDB page or whatever if they want that sort of information.
(please sign your comments) I agree, and with that, I am taking the section with new projects that have not yet been released, out. --Jacquelyn Marie 18:23, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
i don't agree as some of the future work is about set in stone, he will star in the king kong remake, why is it so wrong to show that on wiki. once the movie has been released the piece could be added to the article.

[edit] Animated image

The animated image here is awfully distracting. Perhaps another still image would be a better in its place. Meeve 08:54, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

hmmm, after looking at the context, it seems that a still image wouldn't work in this case. The animation can make it difficult to read the page, though. Meeve 08:57, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] POV Issue

"Black is perhaps best-known in for his role as the greedy 1930s-era film director Carl Denham in Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong."

This seems to have a conflict in POV to me. Not only do I disagree with the statement (School of Rock was definitively Black's rise to being a household name) but it's got definitive POV.

It does say "perhaps". But if you disagree go ahead and change it. A good idea would be to list a few of his roles. JackO'Lantern 05:21, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PitFall!

According on the Pitfall! article, his first acting job was a commercial for the game. The game is quite popular, so prehaps this should be added to the article?

[edit] Vandalism

--Black was born in Richard King's basement under Studio 8H to a middle-class Jewish family. His parents, George Washington and Martha Stewart, were Janitors and members of a naturist group, Family Synergy [1]. They divorced when he was -0.

[edit] References

I have converted everything to the new meta cite.php format. Hope this makes things easier. Kilo-Lima|(talk) 15:46, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New image

I've added another free image from the commons that was actually seen on the French Wikipedia. Kilo-Lima|(talk) 12:44, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Is there any way that a better image can be put up? It shows only half of his face and hes doing something weird with his mouth. Sfrostee 14 December 2006

[edit] Acting career

The "Acting career" section should include things like "High Fidelity," "School of Rock," and "King Kong," not a small voice-acting bit and the intro to a failed pilot.--Josh 19:40, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Religion

In a few of his songs he can be quoted as saying "Dianetics junior much better than krishna...Dianetics Junior much better indeed" (another city hall lyric i believe). Is Jack Black a practioner of Dianetics or Scientology? or are they simply lyrics. A google search had not yielded any results, can anyone clarify and possibly update this in the wiki? All we know is he grew up in a jewish household. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.107.151.178 (talkcontribs) 19:38, May 13, 2006

Black was raised Jewish and is currently an atheist. Those lyrics actually come from "Kielbasa," and they're just weird lyrics.--Josh 13:10, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Are you sure? I remember him saying on a special feature to the School of Rock that he said "[You know?] Because I'm a Jew." Kilo-Lima|(talk) 16:04, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
He's not an atheist, he still is Jewish, and does not identify him as anything else.
I do not know what his professed beliefs are, but there's no contradiction between identifying as Jewish and also as an atheist. marbeh raglaim (talk) 21:51, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] COMPUTERMAN

Does anyone knows about COMPUTERMAN, a online series in wich Black participated?--Zebras-en 03:34, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Marijuana

In the article it says, "Black supports the legalization of marijuana and referred to those who wished to keep it banned as 'old fucking shrivs' in the Tenacious D song, 'City Hall'." This seems a little slack to me. Although I'm not saying I don't believe that Jack Black supports the legalization of Marijuana, there should be a citation other than the lyrics of a comedy song. In the same song, Black calls for such things as riots to tear down society and for public and private transportation to be replaced by "tube" travelling. However, the article doesn't state these as opinions. If Black supports the legalization of Marijuana, we should have a better source than this. Povins 19:04, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Alright. No one has responded to my post in the last week or so. I'm going to remove the text until someone has a better source. Povins 16:53, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was Move to Jack Black. Duja 07:05, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Jack Black (actor)Jack Black — Links throughout Wikipedia that refer to ANY person named Jack Black refer to the actor 10 times as much as all the other Jack Blacks combined (this can be seen by checking the What Links Here pages for each. There are very few links to the other Jack Blacks.) So we know the other Jack Blacks are not extremely significant figures. Second, if you check what links to the plain Jack Black ->w:Special:Whatlinkshere/Jack Black, you'll notice virtually ALL refer to the actor. Thus, many links are leading to a disambiguation page when none is necessary. The actor is by far the most common person searched for named Jack Black. Thus, we should follow the Michael Jackson rule here. Bssc81 19:42, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Survey

Add  * '''Support'''  or  * '''Oppose'''  on a new line followed by a brief explanation, then sign your opinion using ~~~~.

  • Support for the reasons listed above. - Bssc81 19:43, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Weak Oppose I love Jack Black, don't get me wrong, but his level of fame doesn't come close to that of Jackson's. Personally, I'd like to see all common names be taken by disambig pages, like Jack Black currently is (or at least was, until you moved it). The fact that most Jack Black links point to the disambig page is a flag that those links need to be fixed just as much as it is evidence that this page should be moved. EVula 20:04, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Support. The actor is much more notable than all the others uses of this name. --Serge 21:18, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Weak Support Support because he is the most prominent Jack Black, but weak support because it also looks like a common name, and it is true that he's not as well known as someone like Michael Jackson. Wirbelwind 22:26, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Oppose Though I plan to name my first three kids after him, Jack Black may not be the biggest Jack Black ten years from now. We should stick with the normal format--it doesn't diminish his prowess. For that matter, I wouldn't give Michael Jackson (twisted, attention-starved "adult" vestige of the popular child singer) the exclusive MJ page either. Not a battle I'd engage in, though--it'd just give him more attention, which is a mistake. Exclusive ownership of a name page on Wikipedia should be reserved for people like Benjamin Franklin and Marie Curie. -Eric (talk) 14:07, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
    • I'm sorry, "how they got famous" is not a reason for rejecting the move. Just because you don't like what Michael Jackson has done, it shouldn't affect what his article title is. Similarly, it doesn't matter that Jack Black may not be the biggest Jack Black 10 years from now. Benjamin Franklin may not be the most famous one 10 years from now either. And if and when that happens, we can deal with it then. - Bssc81 14:11, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Weak Support per Wirbelwind --Arvedui 09:29, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Support. The issue is relative noteworthiness not absolute (i.e., what would most users be seeking when typing a particular name). And no need to try and predict the future fame of persons of the same name; the change can be made then if needed. —  AjaxSmack  10:25, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

Add any additional comments:

  • Response to some people above - he may not be as famous as Michael Jackson, but it's pretty close when you consider his fame relative to other people named Jack Black. Nobody else comes close - as I mentioned, look at how few links there are to the "secondary" Jack Blacks. Consider John Adams (and see John Adams (disambiguation)). Far more people are named "John Adams" than "Jack Black", yet the fact that one single John Adams is far more popular than the others is why the article is not named "John Adams (former U.S. president)". I'm not sure what the rule of thumb is, but the fact that 90%+ links to "Jack Black" are intended for the actor should mean something. As a secondary reason, it's a lot less work to move this page than to change every single link to "Jack Black". --Bssc81 23:46, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Response to above "I'm sorry...": Don't be sorry. I'm not opposing it for that reason; I don't think we should create precedents that might spawn time-consuming discussions like this over every famous person whose fans want them to have a Wiki-exclusive on their name. I certainly was not saying that my opinion of MJ's antics should be the determining factor in titling his article. I also think it's a safe bet that Ben Franklin will still be a household name in ten years. -Eric (talk) 14:50, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Good point, Ajax. -Eric (talk) 12:32, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Award Winning?

The main description of this article claims that Black is award winning. However, the rest of the article fails to detail what awards he has won. Can anyone add that? Mmeyers 22:30, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, according to IMDB he won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award, a DVD Exclusive Award and a MTV Movie Award. All three aren't very big awards or that notable that we should mention this in the lead paragraph, so I'm removing the "award-winning" bit. --Conti| 22:38, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I think an MTV Movie Award is notable enough. I'd be for including "award-winning" as long as which awards he received is included later in the article. Mmeyers 17:17, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Saving Silverman

Jack Black was not the lead in Saving Silverman, that would be Jason Biggs. I don't want to start an edit war, but do not be misleading.--Farquaadhnchmn(Dungeon) 22:51, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Arrested Development

Regarding the statement in the trivia section that JB made a cameo in Arrested Development episode 302, "For British Eyes Only": none of the darts players look that much like JB. Does someone have a cite for this? If not, I would vote to remove it, as much as I wish it were true.

Xcolour 08:25, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Right after the barkeep tells Michael "unless you're just here for the Poppins", Jack looks almost directly at the camera. He's wearing a beret, and clean-shaven, but it's him, all right. I don't think it was a credited role, so citing it may be tricky...though it seems a moot point as the trivia section is gone now.

I also heard the rumor that Jack Black was fathered by Tom Hanks and didn't want the name recognition to encumber or enhance his career? Any truth to this? I remember someone asking Tom about him on a red carpet interview... Hanks having replied something like "I'll always be proud of Jack." [edit] Jack Black in Jesus Christ Superstar

I have recently become quite taken with JCS. However, that is another story for another time.

While recently playing one of my favorite JCS songs over the phone to my best friend she said, "Was that Jack Black? My son thought it was him, and so do I."

Keeping in mind that I played the 1973 version.

I later did more research via IMDB and found that Jack Black actually *had* performed for the very song I played for my friend in 2006.

I'm sure this is remarkable to noone but me. I just found it very.. serendipitous. As I was just looking for more information regarding JSC and did not expect to find anything regarding Jack! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.93.134.38 (talk) 04:28, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

We all love Jack's wacky humor and comedic ability. Let's hope and pray his managers, handlers, and friends and family are supporting and watching over him. I would hate to read or hear about him like we have those who have come before him such as John Belushi, Chris Farley, and others.

For some reason we forget those who make us laugh and escape, often have their own ghosts. We love you Jack and the laughter you bring us!
