To-do list for Jack Bauer:
  • The article doesn't comform with writing about fiction, especially the Appearances section.
  • It might not be broad enough, missing a reception section, a filming section.
  • It also lacks reference wise.
  • Pass through GA
  • http://24.wikia.com/wiki/Jack_Bauer
  • Add the Justice Scalia defense of the tactics of Jack Bauer at the Ottawa conference of international jurists and national security.

[edit] Jack's Gun

Does anyone know what gun Jack carries? C0N6R355 17:49, 20 March 2007 (UTC) Never mind: the answer is: during days 1 & 2 it was a SIG P228. During days 3,4,5 & 6 it was a Heckler & Koch USP Compact. C0N6R355 17:48, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

The current article claims it to be a 9mm H&K; does anyone know where this is mentioned in the show? --dinomite 02:21, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Check out this photograph. C0N6R355 23:31, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Due to internet rumors and misinformation in one of the novels, Jack’s Heckler & Koch is often described as a USP or USP Compact. In seasons 3, 4, and 5 it is abundantly clear that it is not USP and certainly not a compact. The gun is a full sized HK XP which features a curved top slide and 45 degree angle hammer. The USP slide has a hexagonal slide and the rear slide is only slightly angled.

As shown in the close up poster, it is a 9mm.

The compact theory is down right silly since the gun is full sized. A compact model by definition is smaller so it can be more easily concealed.

In season 6 Jack does not arrive armed. He obtains what looks like a USP from one of the terrorists, and uses it throughout the season. (CWC)

[edit] Weapons & Equipment

I added a weapons section. In case anyone was wondering, the IP address that added to it the first was also me, I forgot to sign in. C0N6R355 13:08, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

I'll say right off the bat that I think including a list of weapons is a bit dubious, but there are some things that obviously don't belong. I just reverted an edit that mentioned Bauer using his teeth as a weapon - what's next? Will we list fists, feet, and elbows too? PaladinWhite 12:32, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
I'd agree with you about the teeth (I didn't add that, I meant the first IP address). However, I chose to add the weapons for a couple of reasons. The main is that it shows the depth of Jack Bauer's skills. It illustrates that he can use revolvers, automatics, sub and fully automatic machine guns, sniper rifles, and knives. An equipment used section also shows Jack's creativity and the resources that he has to support him. However, since the title of this sections is "Weapons and Equipent", I have two requests. First is that I would like people to really think if what they're adding is a weapon or a piece of equipment. For example, I thought about adding CQC, but refrained as it is not a weaon per se, but rather a learned version of martial arts. This would go under a section entitled "Training". My second (and last) point is that I'd like to ask people to go back to the showand look for any equipment Jack carries (thermal sensor, night vision, anything) and add it. I think I've typed enough now! C0N6R355 23:28, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

The “Weapons and Equipment” section is too convoluted. It mentions almost every gun used by CTU, a lot. It should specify which gun Jack used in which season.

The other firearms should be mentioned under individual character bios. Kim’s weapons were never shown up close. She used a sidearm taken from a dead guard to point at Nina Myers in season 3 and Jack gave her a gun he chose when she went under cover. It was nickel and looked like a Sig, Ruger or S&W.

The only time I recall Michele using a gun was in season 3 when she was trapped in the hotel, she clearly uses a Glock but the model is unknown.

Tony brandished a nickel Beretta season 3. In season 4 his gun is nickel and appears to be an Israeli model.

Curtis Manning always used a Glock. In season 6 when he holds it to Al-Assad it is distinctively darker than older Glocks made before 1997. (CWC)

[edit] Date of birth

Could someone give a source for any claims of Jack's date of birth? C0N6R355talkcontribs 23:02, 15 May 2007 (UTC) 15 may 1966. Mobisode #2 after season 6.

This is the correct reference, but the date was Feb 18, 1966. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.8.106.232 (talk) 04:39, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Photo on the right

Since when is the guy in the photograph on the right Jack Bauer? That's a perfect example of a vandalism and should be changed immediately. 89.79.125.214 07:11, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Gallez

[edit] Jack’s Sidearm

It has been about 6 months since I last argued the point that Jack uses a Sig P226 NOT a P228 in seasons 1 and 2. An edit war began in which I bowed out. However I have new evidence for my theory. The best look at this gun is in season 1 7:00am-8:00am when Jack points it at the Palmer assassin’s head. Note the slide release and hammer drop are nickel and stand in stark contrast to the black handle. The P228 two-tone has a black slide release and hammer drop. This distinction is NOT shown on many websites including Wikipedia. Having observed the two side by side in a gun shop the distinction is more apparent.

My original theory was based on the episode in season 2 when Jack and Nina Myers are fighting off the Coral Snake unit. Jack distinctively fires his pistol 15 times before reloading. ONLY a Sig P226 9mm can hold 15 rounds. Any other caliber or Sig model can only hold a maximum of 13.

[edit] Aunt Carol

The Bauer family tree shows Carol as Terri’s sister not Jack’s. I thought in season 2 either Tony or Michele remarked to Jack they were going to get Kim to “your sister’s” or “we called your sister”. I cannot recall the exact episode.

Although Aunt Carol is mentioned hundreds of times in season 2 she never appears except in a deleted scene when Kim calls her before entering the connivance store which is robbed. This scene was edited out due to Elisha Cuthbert letting her Canadian accent slip by saying, “I have a friend in hospital.” not “the hospital.”

What is the basis for Carol being Terri’s sister? (CWC)

- I imagine that it's because she didn't get involved at all during the Bauer Family Crisis of Season 6. When I first heard Aunt Carol, I assumed it was Teri's sister. I'll check my season 2 later to see if there's any clarification on that. Kirobaito

--Don't you mean the family crisis of season 1, not 6? -wj

--- No, season 6. Season 6 involved Jack fighting his dad and his brother. If there was another sibling there, I think he or she would have come up somewhere. At least, I'd hope. If she's not Jack's sister, that pretty much only leaves one possibility... Kirobaito 04:45, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article needs changing to reflect major character changes

As per the talk page of Josh Bauer, someone needs to edit through the 24 character pages, and change all references to Graem Bauer being the father of Josh Bauer. He's actually Jack Bauer's brother, as stated in the offical 24 magazine.

Q: A lot of fans speculated that Jack was the real father of Josh Bauer, so were you surprised when you read that Josh was actually Phillip's son?

A: Oh my God, I walked around the set going, "I had sex with James Cromwell? What?!" They were like, "Yeah, you did!" and I'm like, "I slept with every single Bauer - that is so disgusting!" (Laughs). But I didn't...I didn't have sex with Phillip Bauer. What happened was that Graem and I couldn't have a child, so they went to a sperm bank and Phillip implants his sperm, which makes sense as to why he is so incredibly insane about his legacy.

That was from Rena Sofer's part of the interview. Paul McCrane also confirmed it. Sod Aries 02:02, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jack's Age

Is there any official source for what year Season 6 took place in? Some say 2011, some say 2012, some say 2013. There were reports that the phones on the CTU set all had 2012 dates but again nothing concrete. In the light of no apparent confirmation, I think perhaps Jack's age should be omitted, since its not entirely clear what age he is as of Season 6 (even though we now have his DOB). --Dreamer84 23:36, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

None as far as I can tell. Best to keep it simple and leave it out. — Deckiller 23:37, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Season 6 took place in 2013! --Chris Bulgin

Says who? Most places I've seen are saying 2011. And even then there's nothing official. All we know is that Season 6 takes place just over 9 years from Season 1. Assuming the 24 followed the real world and had the California Presidential Primaries in 2000, 2002 and 2004, that means that 24's sixth season either took place in 2009, 2011 or 2013. But we don't know which! --Dreamer84 21:04, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deus Ex Reference? Where?

While I'm not a fan of 24, I *am* a big fan of Deus Ex. This article says that there is a reference to Jack Bauer in Deus Ex, but I have no recollection of this, at least not in the original release of Deus Ex. At the very least, Deus Ex was released in 2000, and the first showing of 24 was in 2001, so it would make it difficult to reference a character that did not yet exist in fiction. Maybe they mean the sequel, Invisible War? Can someone confirm or deny this reference? ApokalypseCow 14:25, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Since Deus Ex came out before 24, and there aren't any references that can corroborate this information, I'm removing this line. Anthonypants 01:20, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Height

The top three Google results for "Kiefer Sutherland height" list him as ranging from 5'9" to 5'11". Does anyone know of a reliable source? --dinomite 14:36, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Kiefer Sutherlands height is listed as 5'9 1/2 or 177cm on the IMDB. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.239.205.156 (talk) 11:35, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:JackB4.jpg

Image:JackB4.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Works for...

"worked in various capacities as a government agent, including US Army Delta Force, LAPD SWAT," I'm not a watcher of 24, but hasn't he worked for CTU throughout the entire series? Though he may have done other stuff between the end of one season and the beginning of the next, in each season hasn't he been 'working for' (either officially or unofficially) CTU? 199.71.183.2 (talk) 17:04, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jack's bio

I made some changes and there are more that should probably happen:

1) Bio said after receiving his Bachelors and Masters he joined the Army. Nothing in the bio from Fox (the only source listed) indicates that he got both degrees, then went to the Army. Where i the source for this?

2) It says he enlisted and became a Special Forces Officer. It is much more common to join as an officer if you have a degree than to enlist, then try to become an officer later. Where is the source for this?

3) Nothing in the Fox bio says he was an officer or in Special Forces Branch. He was in Detla, which falls under Special Operations Command, but draws members from all branches in the Army. It also says he was "offered". People aren't offered Delta, the selection process is highly competitive. Where is a source saying he was SF first.

4) The bio lists several military decorations. Do we have a source we can use?

5) The Fox bio doesn't show him working for the CIA. Is there a source we can use on that?

I love the show. I am just trying to get this straight before some 24 hating wikinazi shows up and starts putting fact|date tags on everything. Niteshift36 (talk) 05:47, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

I can answer 5 - he actually stated in season 1 that he was in the CIA doing fieldwork and ALL of the other answers can be found in his dossier in the book "The House Special Subcommittee's Findings at CTU". 193.63.197.247 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 07:39, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Death Count=

How many people has Bauer killed in 6 seasons of 24? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.33.1.18 (talk) 16:05, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Improving to GA status

This article, while a very good start, has several major flaws that, at this time will prevent it from being declared a good article. The first and foremost is the widespread lack of references throughout the entire article this problem is rampant. For those interested in improving the article this would be an excellent place to start.

The prose could be improved overall, but is definitely a good start. I'd focus on the Characteristics section first, and from there tweak the rest.

In the appearances section, some portions could be beefed up to more or less match the others, and some of the longer ones could be trimmed down so as not to go into comparatively too much detail. Perhaps look at increasing the information contained in the non-plot summary sections to maintain the overall balance.

On the positive, the article does have a fairly broad scope, is more or less neutral and stable, and is decently imaged, although it could possibly use one or two more.

I have rated this article B class on the assessment scale. --Liempt (talk) 05:35, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] name

The card Jack is called Boer in Dutch which is Bauer in German, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.135.244.223 (talk) 23:12, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

The "bowers", the two jacks of the same colour as the trump suit, are also the high cards in Euchre. While I don't believe there's any actual confirmation that these facts inspired the character's name, I think it might be worth mentioning as an aside. I want to see what you guys think before making the addition. Sikyanakotik (talk) 03:29, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
