[edit] A note to the anon editors concerned about anti-Semitism

Hi -- listen, the way you're going about things right now isn't working, and won't ever work. Blanking pages and inserting a screed or substitute article text isn't going to cut it. Instead, why don't you try discussing rationally whatever it is you feel needs changing? Wikipedians are, on the whole, a kind, intelligent and fair-minded bunch. You'll find a much better reception if you try engaging folks as human beings, instead of behaving like schoolyard thugs. Please. I'd like to know what your real concerns are, minus all this saber-rattling vandalism. But I can't listen to your concerns if you won't stop blaring a horn in my ears. · Katefan0(scribble)/poll 22:13, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] sprotect

I removed the sprotect, since The C seems to have banned the troublemaking anons. Will watch... William M. Connolley 15:54, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Please do then. A halmark of this individual has been his ability to quickly jump to a new IP address when one is banned. Just check the history. He will likely be back later today going full speed again. --StuffOfInterest 15:57, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I've put the sprotect back on again. William M. Connolley 19:54, 2 February 2006 (UTC).

Thanks for the quick action on it! --StuffOfInterest 19:58, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
This guy must be getting paid to do this, I guess you can't sprotect a talk page?--M4bwav 20:16, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I guess the talk page will need protected as well. At least the guy is showing his true colors. --StuffOfInterest 20:29, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Here's some research, this Whois Database shows that many of the vandals are coming from:

role: Netvision NOC team
address: Omega Building
address: MATAM industrial park
address: Haifa 31905
address: Israel
phone: +972 4 8560 600
fax-no: +972 4 8551 132
e-mail: abuse@netvision.net.il

--Howrealisreal 20:40, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

The guy claimed he worked for an Israeli-US defense contractor, there can only be so many of those in that city, probably could narrow it down.--M4bwav 20:45, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Seems that the 62.'s come from there too [1]. I'll email them, on the offchance it does some good. William M. Connolley 20:56, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Here's a directory of the industrial park that the vandals are coming from. I think it's probably one of the technology industries that's there, not so much a defense contractor. Anyway, this cured my boredom for like a second. --Howrealisreal 20:57, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, well you can visit http://home.netvision.net.il/. Looks like it might be an ISP, but I can't read Hebrew. Anyone? William M. Connolley 21:04, 2 February 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Blocked another anon...

I've blocked our anon again with . From the history, I see that people reverting him worry about going over *their* 3R/day, so it seems fair enough to declare that reverts like [2] by anons like 62.0.139.162 or anyone reasonably suspected as such don't count against your daily limit. William M. Connolley 19:48, 2 February 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Back to the Jewish/Israel Issue

Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.

With all due respect and without pointing the finger at the individuals who we feel have an ant-Jewish agenda.

We are editing the page these two paragraphs and are sorry if you see this as "vandalism"

Abramoff was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey where his father, Franklin Abramoff, worked as a businessman and promoter, Arnold Palmer being among his biggest clients. In 1968, his family moved to Beverly Hills, California, where Abramoff later attended Beverly Hills High School, where he was renowned for his weightlifting and football prowess.

Federal investigators believe more than $140,000 of Capital Athletic Foundation funds were diverted to a high school friend of Abramoff's for "purchases of camouflage suits, sniper scopes, night-vision binoculars, a thermal imager and other material described in foundation records as 'security' equipment.[51] US Senate Indian Affairs Committee hearings reveal that the Capital Athletic Foundation "also paid a monthly stipend and Jeep payments to a high-school friend of Abramoff. The 'high-school friend' is, apparently, an old friend he knew from Los Angeles."

I have no involvement in this dispute, and I do not want to become involved. But the phrase that anyone can edit wikipedia does not mean that anything can be added to wikipedia. This is an encyclopedia, so any information in here must be verifiable, neutral and relevant. An article in an encyclopedia should contain information that is relevant to the notability of the subject, whether that information is negative or positive (note: I don't know if this applies to this content dispute). I've glanced at the page history, and you seem to disagree with some content of the article. This has resulted in a back-and-forth edit war, which does not do the article any good. I would like to advise you to use this talk page to argue why some information should or should not be in the article. And rest assured, there is no anti-Jewish agenda on wikipedia. Aecis Mr. Mojo risin' 12:20, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Aecis, take a look at this history on the talk page as well as the historyon the refactor pages (listed at the top). After our anonymous friend was locked out of the article via semi-protect yesterday he decided to go on a talk page vandalism spree replacing everything in sight with the content of the article page edited to his liking. --StuffOfInterest 12:27, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Aecis, that is one version. But the truth is at some point in the "discussion" on this issue some people decided to ADD the Jewish comments without regard to our feelings. the "anon" user that he refers to is actually comprised of a dosen users here in Israel that do not want to see the Abramoff lynch page turned into a Jewish lynch page. 62.0.142.2 12:39, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Dude just register an account, and present evidence of your view point, there is really no need to force an agenda down everyone's throat, other than occasional vandalism, no one here has an anti-jewish agenda, if anything you are the one with an anti-jewish agenda by making a poor case through your despotic actions.--M4bwav 14:31, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

  • "other than occasional vandalism, no one here has an anti-jewish agenda"

Hmm. Yes indeed. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.0.93.134 (talk • contribs) .

You know it's not very fair to edit other people's comments.--M4bwav 14:58, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Shooting down the anons

For the moment, shooting down anon vandals is amusing, so I'll keep doing it. If I get bored, I'll sprotect the page. William M. Connolley 22:42, 5 February 2006 (UTC).

Well its been fun, but their inexhaustible stupidity seems to be... inexhausible. So I think its sprotect time again. William M. Connolley 23:07, 5 February 2006 (UTC).
Ah well I've done it. William M. Connolley 23:19, 5 February 2006 (UTC).
Yeah, it's for the best. JackO'Lantern 23:26, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Even better, its no longer linked from the main page, so we're *allowed* to sprotect it, too! William M. Connolley 23:32, 5 February 2006 (UTC).
While before this, I have never been called an anti-semite in my entire life, now I would barely be outraged if someone did, it's become simply blanket term of dissatisfaction.--M4bwav 04:23, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Hey, in the last couple of weeks I've been deemed anti-Jewish, anti-Christian, and anti-Muslim. Guess I should go start vandal fighting on the Hindu, Buddhist, and Atheist articles just to get a full house. --StuffOfInterest 12:35, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Since this has got rather personalised, and since he seems to have some ideas, I'm backing off admin activity on this page for a bit and letting T' Cunctator have a go. William M. Connolley 17:36, 6 February 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Contact to network owner?

Has anyone made an attempt yet to contact the network owner for the addresses our anonymous friend has been operating from? Looking at the history on the main page, I would think their network admins would be very interested in the hate comments being posted out by this individual. This is especially true when one considers that comments like that on Wikipedia do not go away.

A search for IP network information using DNS Stuff turned up (some lines trimmed):

I sent:
Dear abuse@netvision.net.il,
various IP's that appear to originate with you are vandalising the wikipedia pages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Jack_Abramoff and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Abramoff. A history of edits to those pages are: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jack_Abramoff&action=history and http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Jack_Abramoff&action=history
We would be grateful if you could investigate this. In the meantime, it is likely that IP's in your range will be blocked from editing wikipedia if the abuse continues.
Please note: this email is written on the assumption that the IP lookup from http://www.ripe.net/whois?form_type=simple&full_query_string=&searchtext=+62.0.139.162&do_search=Search is correct in pointing those IP's as yours; if this is an error, my apologies.
Regards,
William Connolley.

No answer so far. That was before cyclon B, of course... William M. Connolley 17:34, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

I wouldn't bother, I have had dealings with Netvision in the past, I came to the conclusion that it was most likely that their own sysops were causing the trouble themselves. --Gorgonzilla 15:42, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

To me, that would be justification for block banning the entire network. If the network operators won't address problems then they can not be trusted to participate in the community. --StuffOfInterest 16:35, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
