Jacob (Ya'akov) Valero (1813–1874) is considered to be the founder of the Valero dynasty in Palestine. He was the founder of the first private bank in Palestine: Jacob Valero & Company, which developed contacts with banking houses in Europe. It began its operation in 1848 in the Old City of Jerusalem, and Valero directed it until his death. Valero was an Ottoman subject until 1860, and then became a subject of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
