[edit] Biography
Jacob Hoggard learned to play piano at the age of 5, and guitar at the age of 12. Hoggard was educated at Senator Reid Elementary School and Mennonite Educational Institute.[1] Together with 4 of his friends he formed the band Hedley, named after a small hamlet in British Columbia. They had learned that it was for sale. Although they had thought about buying it, they decided not to.
He had auditioned for Canadian Idol at the urgings of his mother. His bandmates bet him $150 that he couldn't make it to the top 10. Hoggard won the bet (but not the money), making it to the final three.
Songs that Hoggard performed during Canadian Idol include:
- Audition: "Forever in Blue Jeans"
- Top 32: "Only the Good Die Young" (Billy Joel)
- Top 10: "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" (Paul Anka)
- Top 9: "Space Oddity" (David Bowie)
- Top 8: "Everything" (Lifehouse)
- Top 7: "Brickhouse" (Lionel Richie)
- Top 6: "Sundown" (Gordon Lightfoot)
- Top 5: "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" (Aerosmith)
- Top 4: "Straighten Up And Fly Right", "Unforgettable" (Nat King Cole)
- Top 3: "If You Don't Know Me By Now" (Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes), "I Want You To Want Me" (Cheap Trick)
When he returned after Canadian Idol, he learned that his former band mates had moved on. A re-formed Hedley (with Hoggard the only original member retained) released their debut self-titled album in September of 2005 Jacob went on to marry his girlfriend Tammy in Mexico in January of 2006. Hedley's sophomore album, Famous Last Words was released in October of 2007.
