[edit] Media appearances
Budden appeared as a guest in the opening sketch of the first episode of the second series of comedy TV show Bo' Selecta. In 2006 she also appeared in Bo! in the USA with Jade. In April 2006, she appeared on a home makeover TV show with her daughter where they made over her council flat in Bermondsey.[citation needed]
On April 12, 2006, Jade appeared on the chat show Davina speaking about her autobiography. Here she mentioned that Jackiey lost two years of her memory after the aforementioned motorbike crash and that she was upset that she was unable to remember that her daughter went into foster care. In Autumn 2006, she underwent considerable cosmetic surgery; including breast enhancement, face lift, cheek implants, laser eye sugery and dental work. This was for the Living TV programme, Extreme Makeover.[1] The surgery cost the show £30,000. Budden was forbidden from seeing her friends and family for three months from the time she had the surgery until the show was aired. Jackiey has also appeared in her daughter's television shows Jade's Salon and Just Jade. On January 12 and 19 2007 she appeared on The Friday Night Project.
[edit] Celebrity Big Brother controversy
On January 5, 2007 Jackiey became a surprise participant in the fifth UK series of Celebrity Big Brother along with Jade and Jade's boyfriend Jack Tweed. During her time in the house she appeared to clash with fellow contestant, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, which often concerned the incorrect pronunciation of Shilpa's name by Jackiey. Jackiey was the first housemate to be evicted from the house on January 10, 2007 after receiving the lowest number of votes from the British public. She was not allowed to say goodbye to her fellow housemates, and was evicted through a side door in the "diary room". In her interview with host Davina McCall, she said that she was "jarred by the Indian", to the response of laughter from the audience present. The events that resulted from the fact that Jackiey was unable to pronounce Shilpa's name, together with her making this comment, was picked up by some to be racist in nature. Others argued that this was a misunderstanding of Jackiey's background, with Russell Brand referring to the row as a whole as "expressing views and attitudes endemic in the culture from which [the participants] came".[2].
After Jackiey was evicted from the house, her daughter and two of the other housemates (Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara) took part in a row (ostensibly over stock cubes) that has been widely described as the racist bullying of Shilpa Shetty. Responding to this incident, Jackiey Budden was quoted as saying, "the Indian should have stayed in Bollywood", because: “She did my fucking head in! Ten years ago I would have knocked her out, so she’s lucky I’ve mellowed since then. But I would still love to squeeze her neck until her eyes pop out."[3]
[edit] Personal life
She made the national press during her daughter's time in the Big Brother house through being a lesbian and having the use of only one arm. She lost the use of her left arm as a result of a motorbike accident when her daughter, Jade, was only five years old. [4]
During her time in the Celebrity Big Brother house, she stated she has been a Rastafarian for 19 years.
