Jackie Tyrrell (born 19 June 1982) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club James Stephens and with the Kilkenny senior inter-county team.

[edit] Early life
Jackie Tyrrell was born in Kilkenny in 1982. He was educated locally and showed great skill at the game of hurling in his youth. Tyrrell subsequently attended St. Kieran's College, a famed hurling nursery, in Kilkenny city. It was here that his hurling skills were developed and nurtured by the many hurling enthusiasts there. He won 2 Leinster Senior Colleges titles as well as an All-Ireland colleges medal with the school in the late 1990s. Tyrell later studied at Cork Institute of Technology and at Limerick Institute of Technology. It was at the latter institution that he won a Fitzgibbon Cup medal on a team trained by Clare's Davy Fitzgerald.

Tyrrell plays his club hurling with his local James Stephens GAA club. He has had much success at under-age level with famous club, known locally as "the Village". In 2004 and 2005 Tyrrell captured back-to-back senior county titles titles with the famous club. Both these county titles were subsequently converted into Leinster club titles. On St. Patrick's Day, 2005 Tyrell won a coveted All-Ireland club title.
[edit] Inter-county
Tyrrell first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a membe rof the Kilkenny under-21 hurling team in the early 2000s. In 2003 he was captain of the team when he collected his a Leinster title in that grade. Tyrrell later guided his team to an All-Ireland victory over Galway. In 2003 he joined the Kilkenny senior inter-county set-up, however, it was a lucky year for the team. In 2005 Tyrrell tasted his first senior success by winning his first National Hurling League medal. He subsequently captured his first senior Leinster title, however, Kilkenny were later defeated by [Galway GAA in a thrilling All-Ireland semi-final. In 2006 Tyrrell was appointed captain of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He had a successful year in charge, helping his team to capture a second consecutive National League title. Tyrrell subsequently captured his own second senior Leinster medal before leading his team out in an All-Ireland final against Cork. On the day Kilkenny proved to be the bbetter team and Tyrrell captured his first senior All-Ireland medal. In 2007 Tyrrell added a third consecutive Leinster medal to his collection following a trouncing of Wexford in the provincial final. He later won his second senior All-Ireland medal after 'the Cats' defeated surprise finalists Limerick in the championship decider. Tyrrell's performance in the championship that year earned him his first All-Star award. Friend and work mate Mr Nigel Daly helped hone his hurling skills while in college in Cork institute of technology. Jackie owes this great man a quare lot. Jackie has also been mentored by a great stallwart of carlow GAA David Grath, even while away travelling the world david and jackie kept in touch and it was down to David Graths advice throughout the 2007 league and championship that saw jackie earn another all ireland medal and an all star, jackie owes David Grath so much for the help and tuition through out his fine career to date.
