[edit] Biography
[edit] Early life
Born Sigmund Esco Jackson in Gary, Indiana in 1951, he was given the name "Jackie" by relatives. Aspiring to be a professional baseball player, Jackson forsook that dream when he and his four younger brothers formed the Jackson 5 in 1966. Jackie and his two younger brothers Tito and Jermaine were part of an early incarnation of the group as The Jackson Brothers in 1962.
[edit] The Jackson Five
Four consecutive number-one hits, including "I Want You Back" and "ABC", songs Jackie assisted a co-lead on alongside Michael and Jermaine. When the heir first hit with "Enjoy Yourself", which also included an assisted solo lead by Jackie. Other Jacksons songs Jackie took part in singing lead on include "Wondering Who" and "It's Alright", as well as "Wait" and "Torture".
[edit] Solo career
Jackie released his solo debut in 1973 to capitalize on the Jackson 5 franchise the same way that younger brothers Jermaine and Michael had done. His self-titled debut failed to generate sales and none of the singles released were hits. Jackie put plans for a solo career on hold until 1989 when he released Be The One shortly after the release of the last Jacksons album, 2300 Jackson Street. Peaking at #89 R&B, the album yielded two R&B hits, "Stay" and "Cruzin". Jackie hasn't released an album since.
[edit] Current years
His last performance was with his five younger brothers during a reunion performance at Madison Square Garden in 2001. Jackie currently lives in California where he runs the record company, Jesco. Artists signed to the label include rapper Mike Street from the Long Island, New York group Emstate, and his son, rapper DealZ who released a first "mixtape" in Aug 2007. Jackie is also working with some of his brothers on a reunion album for the Jackson 5. No release date is known at the moment. He also performed in the 30th Anniversary.
[edit] Personal life
Jackie married his first and only wife, Enid Spann, in 1974. They divorced in 1987. He allegedly had a relationship with singer and choreographer Paula Abdul while he was still married, although reports have varied as to actual proof of a relationship. He has two children - daughter Brandi, and Sigmund "Siggy" (who is a rapper and goes by the name DealZ). Jackie is currently single.
