Jackball

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jackball is a drinking game that involves the throwing of a small ball (about the size of a tennis ball) among a circle of players. If a player drops the ball or throws what is deemed a poor throw, said player must drink from a bottle of hard liquor. When the bottle is finished, the game is considered over, however, games with multiple bottles can be played.

[edit] Rules

Participants are seated around the room in a circle. The game commences when with a "jump ball" in which an individual throws the ball up between two players who try to grab control of the ball. Once a player gains possession of the ball, the game commences. After the first throw is made, all players must be seated.

Throwing then commences among the players in the circle. Throws may be firm, however, they should be catchable (see Bad Throws). Vertical objects are considered to be in play (such as a wall or the back of a couch) and players are allowed to trap the ball against the vertical objects. However, if the player is not in possession of the ball and the ball hits a horizontal plane that is not a part of the player's body than a drop has occurred. If a player drops the ball, then the player must drink from the bottle. Another player may save the ball by grabbing it after a bounce off the original player or a vertical object.

[edit] Bad Throws

A throw may deemed bad if one of the following situations occurs:

Errant Throw: A throw outside of a player's wingspan is deemed to be uncatchable

Hard Throw: A throw can be deemed bad if it is thrown with an unreasonable velocity

Neighbor Throw: If the room is crowded, than special care must be taken if one decides to throw to his neighbor. Throws lacking arc or off target can be considered to be bad throws.

[edit] Grievances and Face-offs

If the player who is set to receive the ball feels that a bad throw has occurred, than he may petition the other players for grievance. The other players will vote whether it was a drop or a bad throw and will decide who must drink. Neither the player who throws the ball or the player who receives the ball is allowed to vote. If a majority is reached, then the player at fault must drink.

If a tie occurs, then the two players must engage in a face-off. The two players must stand 10 to 15 feet apart and must throw the ball back and forth until either a drop or a bad throw occurs. The player at fault must then drink.

The Lowercase Corollary: When a supermajority of players decide that a player is not adequately drinking, the other players may force said player to drink by pouring alcohol down said player's throat.
