John Charles Rowe (born December 8, 1856 in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, died April 25, 1911 in St. Louis, Missouri) was a baseball player for the Buffalo Bisons of the National League (1879-1885), Detroit Wolverines (1886-1888), Pittsburgh Alleghenys (1889), and the Buffalo Bisons of the Players League (1890). His brother, Dave Rowe, also played and managed in the Majors.[1]
Rowe began his career as a catcher, but switched to primarily a shortstop in 1885.
He hit for the cycle on August 21, 1886.
Jack suffered a nervous breakdown[2] and died at the age of 54. He was laid to rest at Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis.[3]
