Jack Ross (born June 5, 1976) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays in defence and midfield for Scottish Premier League club St. Mirren.
Ross had spells as a youth player at Dundee United and Forfar Athletic. He then moved to Camelon, where he featured in their 1996 Scottish Junior Cup run, before losing in the final. He joined Clyde in 1999, and he never looked back. He played in many different positions, but after a few months, the right-midfield slot was his.
Ross then signed a pre-contractual agreement with Hartlepool. [1]However, things did not go to plan as Ross got injured after suffering ankle ligament damage[2] and spent a large part of his time on the sidelines. Hartlepool funded his rehabilitation and also allowed him to return home. However, Ross refused to return to Hartlepool, train or play for the club and asked Hartlepool’s chairman Ken Hodcroft to tear up his contract claiming his was "homesick" [3]. However, Hartlepool refused and asked for compensation and a refund of agent fees. [4]. Ross then left without consent and later went on sick [5] and claimed that he wouldn’t return to Hartlepool even if "they were in the Champions League". [6]. He also criticised Hartlepool manager Neale Cooper for feeling let down by his actions, "Maybe the manager thinks I have let him down but that's nothing compared with how I feel about him." [7] On July 31 2005, Hartlepool agreed to terminate his contract after finally receiving compensation, which included a refund of the fees paid to Ross’ agent. [8].
He transferred to Falkirk, in 2005. Falkirk manager John Hughes warned Ross when he stalled on signing a new contract. [9]
On April 30th 2008 it was announced that Ross had signed a pre-contract agreement with current SPL rivals St Mirren and will join them at the end of the season on a deal that will keep him at the Paisley club for two years [10].
