Jack Rimmer is a fictional character in the BBC drama Waterloo Road. He is one of the original cast of Waterloo Road, who left the show in Episode 6 of the third series. However, he did return briefly in Episode 19 of Series 3.
[edit] Career
Jack was already a teacher at Waterloo Road when the series first began, but became interim headmaster when previous headmaster Brian Vasey had a nervous breakdown. Jack is a pragmatist he doesn't care how things are done as long as they work to his standard. It has taken Rimmer a long time to finally gain his wanted occupation of a headteacher, he even had to blackmail sponsor governor Roger Aspinall about his source of income (pornography) so he would put in a good word to the rest of the board. Though he failed to sway the board's vote against headship candidate Lyndsey Woodham, but when Jack thought he was about to go back teaching History, Woodham reported her shock resignation - due to a physical push from an angry student who was trying to get through and attack Rimmer, the truth was Lyndsey knew how to talk and impress the board with her presentations, but her action was limited due to push that tempted her not to have that experience again, fearing that such behaviour was a regular occurance at the school. Rimmer became headmaster on a permanent basis.
At the end of Series 2, Jack was confronted in the school grounds one evening by drug dealer Jed Seddon. Drama teacher Izzie Redpath intervened, only to run straight onto Seddon's knife. She died as a result of the wound, and Jack found it difficult to deal with the death. Tom Clarkson, Izzie's colleague and partner continues to blame Jack. Jack had a fling with French teacher Steph Haydock when Davina Shackleton was on a residential course. Jack has turned out to be using UEA money on gifted and talented pupils and Ria Cheetham turns up again and calls for an emergency meeting with the board of governors when they suspend him but he states they will have his resignation by the end of the day.
He later returned to tell Davina he had a new job in Dubai. He asked Davina to come with him, but she chose to stay with Tom instead.
