Joseph Buren "Jack" Cassel (born August 8, 1980, in Northridge, California) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros.

Cassel attended L.A. Pierce Junior College and Loyola Marymount University after graduating from Kennedy High School.
[edit] Minor League Baseball Career
Cassel has spent most of his professional baseball career in the Padres organization. After signing on June 21, 2000, he has served mainly as a reliever in the minor leagues.
[edit] Major League Baseball Career
Drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 25th round of the 2000 MLB amateur draft, Cassel made his Major League Baseball debut with the San Diego Padres on August 10, 2007. He was sent back down the next day however, when he had given up 2 runs in 3 innings in his debut. On August 31, Cassel returned to the Major League club and made his 1st MLB Start. Cassel pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up 3 runs on 10 hits with 5 strikeouts, and was awarded a no decision.
Cassel was not offered a new contract by the Padres and became a free agent on December 12, 2007. He signed with the Houston Astros shortly afterwards and is currently competing for a spot in the starting rotation in Spring Training.

Jack's younger brother Matt Cassel is an American football player with the New England Patriots, and his other younger brother Justin Cassel is a minor league baseball player in the farm system of the Chicago White Sox.
