[edit] Background

Jac grew up in foster care for reasons currently unknown. Beyond this, little is known of her history prior to arriving at Holby City Hospital, although it has been revealed that she once worked alongside General Surgical Consultant Nick Jordan as an SHO, and that the two of them were in a relationship until such time he blamed a surgical error on her, in much the same fashion as he would later damage Diane Lloyd's career.

[edit] Overview

Jac is a very strong-willed woman, who believes in speaking bluntly and is a political player. She has no qualms about using people to further her career - constantly trying to steal credit for herself from former colleague Diane Lloyd's successes, and entering relationships with both Joseph Byrne and his father Lord Charles Byrne in order to benefit from Lord Byrne's influence. She has also been seen to manipulate patients for the sake of performing glamorous surgeries, putting her own opportunity before patient care.

[edit] Character history

Jac arrived at Holby City Hospital in episode Bird on a Wire. She was part of a large team undertaking a hemicorporectomy and used the opportunity to make an impression on General Surgical Consultant Ric Griffin, hoping to be offered a permanent role at Holby. Although she failed on this occasion, she was not to be deterred, and several weeks later arrived back at the hospital, determined to work her way up to Consultant.

When Abra Durant terminated his consultant's position early, Jac hoped to be promoted to fill his role, and was disappointed when Diane Lloyd was chosen instead. Diane was promoted by Dan Clifford, who replaced Ric when he left to take a sabbatical in Uganda. Jac's relationship with Dan is notably poor - he refers to her by the sardonic nickname 'Olive' - based on a comparison between her diminutive stature and that of Popeye's girlfriend Olive Oyl. Despite numerous attempts to impress him, Dan remains bemused by Jac's aggressive desire for promotion and lack of morals.

These characteristics can clearly be seen in Jac's dealings with the Byrne family. She began a relationship with Joseph Byrne, hoping to benefit from his father - Lord Byrne's influence. Although she did win her way onto a medical trip to Dubai organised by Lord Byrne, when her desire to reach consultant went unmet, she went as far as to begin a sexual relationship with him, as well as his son. Tired of weeks of deceit, Lord Byrne eventually revealed the truth to Joseph, and later began divorce proceedings against his wife, Anne-Marie. He made a deal with Ric that he would support Thandie Abebe's racism complaint against Elliot Hope if Ric would consider Jac for promotion. Despite this, in episode Temporary Insanity, not only did Ric turn Jac down for promotion, but Lord Byrne died following a stroke and pulmonary embolism. With her chances of promotion ruined, Jac went out of her way to hurt Joseph further by attending Lord Byrne's funeral against the family's wishes, prompting Joseph to fly into a rage and verbally attack her, Jac threw nasty insults back at Joseph, saying that he wasn't there when his father needed him, Joseph lashed out and smacked Jac hard on the face, Jac fell and hit her face on the arm of a chair and lay on the floor with her nose bleeding and laughed in front of Joseph who stormed off.

On the 13th August 2007, Jac was sure that she would get a position on Clifford's specialist team, but was later angered when she discovered Joseph was also applying for the role. Jac warned Joseph that she could make things very difficult for him, Joseph laughed this off and Jac slapped him across the face twice stating: "now we're even," just as Dan and Louise Clifford entered the corridor to see the whole thing. Dan favoured Joseph but Louise favoured Jac, Jac entered her office with her makeup removed, showing Louise Clifford her bruises that Joseph gave her. Louise later informed Joseph that he hadn't got the job but Jac had.

On the 4th September 2007 Jac was sexually assaulted by a patient Alan Clooney. Lola found her and hit Alan Clooney on the head with a piece of scaffold. However Jac decided not to tell the police because she did not want to be seen as a victim.

On 20th March 2008, Alan Clooney made a second visit when his wife was admitted to hospital. Later that day, she was charged for his murder, when he was stabbed to death at the hospital stairwell. Later that night, she was off the murder case when a girl at the scene of the murder confessed to the police that she stabbed Alan Clooney with a pair of scissors after he raped her.
