[edit] Summary
This image is taken from the cover of the album The Jack Wilson Quartet featuring Roy Ayers, released by Atlantic Records in 1963 as catalog number SD1406. To the best of my knowledge, Atlantic Records own the copyright on the album cover. I am claiming fair use of this image to illustrate Jack Wilson's appearance during the peak of his career.
I have cropped the image so that it only shows Jack Wilson, not the full album cover, which I downloaded from the page http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=361963.
Jack Wilson died in 2007, so it would not be possible to create a free image to replace this. I have performed a search on Flickr and the Library of Congress for free images and found none; as he retired in the early 90s, it seems very unlikely that digital images taken by fans exist.
[edit] Licensing
This image is of a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the album or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |

Description |
A portion of the album cover of The Jack Wilson Quartet featuring Roy Ayers, released by Atlantic Records in 1963 as catalog number SD1406. |
Source |
http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=361963, although the copyright holder is believed to be Atlantic Records. |
Article | |
Portion used |
The album cover has been cropped; the resulting image only contains Jack Wilson's face for identification purposes. |
Low resolution? |
Yes; this portion of the source image was already 403x333. While I realise the standard dimensions for album covers is 300x300, I believe an exception is warranted here as the image is already fairly low resolution and further scaling would adversely affect the quality of the image. The dimensions are close enough to the guidelines to justify an exception. |
Purpose of use |
To show what Jack Wilson looked like during the active part of his career. |
Replaceable? |
Wilson died in 2007, so it is not possible to create a free alternative. A search for free images found nothing. |
