Description

In the center: Order by the War Relocation Authority from 1942-04-01 to all Americans of Japanese ancestry to be removed from the West Coast in World War II. The caption of the picture is as follows: San Francisco, California. On a brick wall beside air raid shelter poster, exclusion orders were posted at First and Front Streets directing removal of persons of Japanese ancestry from first San Francisco section to be affected by evacuation. The order was issued April 1, 1942, by Lieutenant General J.L. DeWitt, and directed evacuation from this section by noon on April 7, 1942.
