Read the list intro. It says, among other things, that the list is for dictators who governed after 1789. It's an anachronism to label someone a dictator before then, because no country had explicit limits on the power of the executive. - you can, if you figure out this site's sources -- unfortunately, the writeup doesn't have a bibliography, so we don't know how much of this is in accord with PCT. It would be much better if you got hold of a book by Alinei or so. Also, please note that while the page you link to is an essay, Wikipedia articles should be in encyclopedic tone and should not read like essays. (see WP:MoS, WP:NOT). Finally, you can use Talk:Paleolithic Continuity Theory to discuss changes to that article, no need to discuss it on my user page :) dab (ᛏ) 09:53, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

- Of course not. Best thing to do is to use the sandbox, though. Otherwise, all those experiments will wind up on the edit history of your talk page. [edit] Norway, Iceland and Switzerland and EU accession
Hi J intela! First of all, thanks for the congratulations: it's a great honour for Romania to be part of the EU! To answer your question regarding Norway, Iceland and Switzerland's EU accession, I think there are various reasons why these countries aren't members. First of all, all three countries have a tradition of euroscepticism, and EU accession is not publicly favoured by any of them at the current moment (according to opinion polls). The differences for this vary between them. Norway and Iceland fear that EU regulations will harm several of their industries (most prominently, fishing, and particularly whaling). Additionally, since Norway and Iceland are among the wealthiest countries in Europe, they will be large per-capita net contributors to the EU budget, and for this reason EU accession is seen as a financial burden producing very little returns (also, these countries have no regions below 75% of the EU average income, meaning the EU will not provide funding as part of its regional development assistance). In fact, these countries, as members of EFTA, already benefit from free trade with the EU member states, as well as free movement of persons, passport-free access (Schengen Agreement) - formal EU accession thus becomes a net cost rather than a net benefit. Culturally, both countries are rather insular (similar to the UK, whose population is also rather eurosceptic), and for this reason they are traditionally quite sceptical about integrationist and regionalist movements, particularly with non-Nordic countries. It is important to note that they are both full members of the Nordic Council and both Norway and Iceland have favoured integration within the Nordic group but not outside it; in fact, Sweden and Finland only joined the EU as late as 1995 due to their ties with the Nordic countries and the desire in the 1980s and 1990s to create a "Nordic" regional bloc distinct from the "continental European" bloc.
The Swiss case is a bit different, even though, to be honest, I actually think Switzerland has the highest chances of these three countries to accede to the EU. The main barrier to accession has been the Swiss tradition of neutrality, which has even prevented it from joining the United Nations until a few years ago. In recent years, there has been a gradual reversal in this policy, as Switzerland has signed the Schengen Agreement and has also collaborated with the EU in several other fields. Aside from the doctrine of neutrality, there is no other reason why Switzerland is incompatible with EU accession, particularly since it is very centrally located on the continent and trades extensively with the EU. So, as it moves away from neutrality, the country may very well join the EU soon (Austria, also a neutral country and non-member of NATO, joined the EU in 1995). You should not vandalize user pages such as you did here even if they are anonymous IP addresses. I appreciate your desire to contribute to articles such as ethanol fuel, but you should not just delete information that you disagree with, especially when it has a verifiable citation. [edit] Land reform in Hungary
Land distribution was part of the greater process of compensation. Everybody who lost his/her property (except corporations) received "tickets of compensation" (kárpótlási jegyek). This was a special share that contained the value of your claim against the state. The value was established by the Office of Compensation (Kárpótlási Hivatal). The upper limit of the compensation was 5 million forints/person. Descendants of the original owners also got their tickets. With the tickets you were able to buy 1, privatized state properties 2, lands of collective and state farms, 3, municipal flats and 4, annuity. Many former landowner bought back his farm but the majority of them only turned their tickets into money. Between 1992 and 1995 ticket trade was a great business in Hungary. Articles should not be moved, as you did to Southern Ocean, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive, reflecting the most common useage. We have some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. - That still is original research which is against Wikipedia policy. Find a source, then add it in. And for what it's worth, I don't know many people who consider Ocean and Mercer counties part of the New York Metro area.--Michael Greiner 04:41, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
