J.E. Heartbreak is the second album by American R&B group Jagged Edge. The album, which was originally set to be released in Fall of 1999, was released on January 18, 2000. The title of the album is a reference to New Edition's 1989 R&B hit, "N.E. Heartbreak". The album has been considered by many as the group's breakthrough album due to the success of the singles and the album itself.[who?]
[edit] Chart Performance/Sales
The album peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The album is seen as the group's biggest selling album to date with sales of over 2 million copies in the United States and, as a result, was certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA.
[edit] Singles
The album spawned three successful singles, which all made the Top 20 on the Billboard 100.
"He Can't Love U" is the first single released from the album and is seen by many as the group's breakthrough single, because the single reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100, which became the group's first Top 20 single, and was eventually certified Gold by the RIAA. The single also reached #3 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, becoming the group's first Top 10 single on the chart.
"Keys To The Range" was the second single released from the album and only managed to reach #55 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the group's first single to not chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Let's Get Married" was the third single released from the album. The single reached #11 on Billboard Hot 100, becoming the group's second Top 20 single. The single also managed to become the group's first single to reach #1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, as well.
The final single from the album, "Promise", is seen as the group's biggest hit to date reaching #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, becoming the group's second consecutive #1 single.
