From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Were you about to ask me why I reverted your edit? This page can answer your question faster than I can reply on your talk page...
The official Wikipedia policy defines "vandalism" as follows:
“ | Vandalism is any addition, removal, or change of content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia. [italics added] | ” |
—from Wikipedia:Vandalism |
This policy is intentionally vague to enable vandal-fighters to deal with any unconstructive edits they find.
Below is an non-exclusive, open-ended list of things that I regard to be irrevocably unconstructive.
If your edit follow the pattern of any of the things listed below, I can assure you I will revert.
- Anything listed on Wikipedia:Vandalism as a common type of vandalism.
- Any edit to an article that consists of ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
- Almost any edit that consists of, or has an edit summary with, ALL CAPITAL LETTERS in any namespace.[1]
- Any edit, or any edit with an edit summary, that consists completely or primarily of swear words.
- Any edit that compares someone or something to a body part below the waist.
- Any edit that mentions, discusses, desires, or in any way alludes to human reproduction. Even in articles about human reproduction.[2]
- Almost any edit that mentions, discusses, desires, or in any way alludes to the reproduction of any living (or otherwise) thing.[3]
- On pages about days: (e.g. August 27)
- On articles about sports: (Teams/athletes/stadiums/referees/equipment/rivalries/etc.)
- Any edit that states that a team/an athlete/a stadium/a referee/some brand of equipment/etc. "sucks", "is 'the best'", "is gay", etc.
- Any edit that states that an athlete has zero career touchdowns/goals/tackles/assists/RBIs/saves/home runs/etc.
- Any edit that states that an athlete made an inordinately large number of touchdowns/goals/tackles/assists/RBIs/saves/home runs/etc.[5]
- Any edit that states that Albert Pujols went through an entire season without making one home run.[6]
- Any edit that states that a team/an athlete/a stadium/a referee/some brand of equipment/etc. "is widely regarded as the best/worst ever" without providing a citation.
- On articles about towns, cities, countries, and other political divisions:
- Any edit that says "Bush is teh gay." or something similar.
- Any edit that includes a broad generalization about an elected official. (e.g. XXXXX is the best/worst/most incompetent/whatever)
- Any edit whose edit summary lies. (e.g. saying you corrected a typo when you actually deleted half of the article.)
- Any edit that personally attacks someone or something.
- Any edit that involves a non-notable person. e.g. "Alice hates Bob."
- Any edit, not on a talk page, that apologizes for vandalizing. If you are really sorry, please, just stop.
- Any edit that includes text generated by clicking on the buttons above the editing window. (e.g. '''Bold text'''[[Link title]]''Italic text''Subscript text<ref>Insert footnote text here</ref>)
- Any edit that includes the phrase "up-and-coming".
- Any edits that add external links pointing to the same domain to more than one page in quick succession.
- Any edit that adds defamatory content to a page without including a citation.
- Any edit that uses variants of the word "legend" as a direct object, an adjective, or an adverb.[7]

Notes
- ^ Basically, the only time I would not revert is when the edit makes you look so foolish that I decided it is better to just leave the edit so that others may know something about your temperament.
- ^ Nothing has changed with this for thousands of years. The articles are fine the way they are; there is no need for you to turn a perfectly encyclopedic article into a porn magazine entry.
- ^ I do not want to irrevocably commit myself here. There may be a way to rationally discuss this subject—I just haven't found any yet.
- ^ ONLY Exception: If the person whose name was added was born before 1900, I will most likely check Google before reverting.
- ^ e.g. 10 touchdowns in one game, 350 goals in the last two months, 35 RBIs in a doubleheader, etc.
- ^ Dude, I hate the Cardinals, and this drives me nuts. You have no idea......
- ^ Anyone who actually is a "legend" will be able to back it up. Provide a citation to a reliable source or be reverted.
Additions
You may suggest additions on this page's talk page. If you are a trusted user (I know you know who you are.....), I will probably add them.
Or you can be bold and add them yourself, although I would appreciate if you would suggest on the talk page first.
Please Note: I am watching both this page and the talk page; any vandalism will be ruthlessly removed.
I got the idea for this page when I saw a similar page in NawlinWiki's userspace.
