J.M. Colt is a character who appeared in the Star Trek: The Original Series pilot episode "The Cage", and a main character in the comic series Star Trek: Early Voyages. She was portrayed by actress Laurel Goodwin.
[edit] The Cage
Colt was the yeoman of the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. Twice in "The Cage," she accidentally bumps into Captain Pike; on both occasions, Pike orders her to provide him with reports.
When Pike is kidnapped by the Talosians, they wish to encourage him to stay. They tempt him by tricking Colt and Number One down to the planet. This doesn't work out quite as expected and the two become prisoners as well, both being affected by the telapthic illusions sent by the Talosians. Pike frees his people through base, human emotion.
Although it was never explicitly revealed in the episode, at least one source indicated the possibility that she had a bit of a crush on Pike. She even asks him whom he would have chosen as his "Eve" back on Talos.
[edit] Star Trek: Early Voyages
Yeoman Colt was a large focus of the non-canon Marvel Comics series Star Trek: Early Voyages. The series begins a bit before The Cage, examining how the crew treats Colt, as she is replacing a crewman that was liked by the entire ship. It goes through the events of the episode from Colt's perspective, then focuses on all new adventures. Most focus on Colt, though not all. Colt even ventures into an alternate future and meets James Kirk and Scotty, but not as part of Starfleet.
