Sir John Grant Phillips KBE (13 March 1911 – 7 October 1986) was an Australian economist who became the second Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia, from 1968 to 1975. His name appeared on Australian currency notes as "J. G. Phillips".
On 7 October 1986, he and his wife of 51 years took their lives by drug overdose, not wanting their minds to become dull or their bodies to decay.[citation needed]
[edit] Honours
In the Queen's Birthday Honours of 8 June 1968, he was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).[1]
In the New Years Day Honours of 1 Jan 1972, he made a knight of the order (KBE).[2]
