[edit] Biography

Wilkes is most well known as the founder and only remaining original member of the rock band Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, formed in western Kentucky in the late 1990s. His wild and unpredictable on-stage antics, often compared to Iggy Pop and Marilyn Manson, are as celebrated as the band's music. Wilkes is a colonel, though not a military officer — he has the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel, which is accorded to Kentucky's stars and notable citizens by the governor. He has recorded harmonica for such artists as Merle Haggard, Mike Patton, and Hank Williams III. Wilkes' contributions to visual art include many "gawdy" sideshow banners and comic strips. His "Head Cheese" strip is seen in the Nashville All the Rage weekly. Other works by Wilkes have been seen in Juxtapoz, Snicker, Alarm Magazine, and TopShelfComix.com. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art from Kentucky's Murray State University. [1]

In 2006, Wilkes, along with Blake Judd, Todd Tue, & Jacob Ennis, began work on a documentary film titled Seven Signs, that explores "music, myth, & the American South." The film premiered to a full house December 30, 2007, at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, TN.
