Jōsō Line

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Joso Line is one section of the Kanto Railway, which also encompasses the Ryūgasaki Line. It is a diesel train line that runs in Ibaraki prefecture in Japan from Toride to Shimodate. For distances beyond a few stops, it is more expensive than the average for trains in Japan.

With the addition of the Tsukuba Express line in 2005, which crosses the Joso at Moriya station, the Joso now has one other point of rail transfer between its two termini.

The main character of the popular Japanese film Shimotsuma Monogatari bases some of her characterisation of the backwardness (inaka in Japanese) of the town she is in, Shimotsuma, on a comic description of Shimotsuma station on the Joso Line.
