Jānis Intenbergs (born April 01, 1959) is a Latvian football manager and a former football forward who played for the top Latvian clubs in 1980s.
[edit] Playing career
Intenbergs is considered one the all time greatest footballers from Liepāja. A goal-eager striker, for the most part of his career as a player he played in his hometown of Liepāja and at this time he was the most popular player on the Zvejnieks Liepāja team. In his most successful season for Zvejnieks in 1984 Intenbergs scored 28 goals in 35 games (second result in the league, more than half of the teams goals). In seven seasons he was the best goalscorer for Zvejnieks, he also played two seasons for FK Daugava Rīga winning the first Soviet league and participating in playoffs for a place in the top division of Soviet football[1]. In Daugava Intenbergs wasn't the main offensive force as it already had two very good forwards in Aleksandrs Starkovs and Jevgeņijs Miļevskis.
In 1987 Intenbergs was back in Liepāja. Intenbergs became the first footballer from Liepāja to play abroad - in 1990-1991 played in Olsztyn and Olimpia Elbląg. After his return to Latvia he once again played in Liepāja (the team underwent several name changes in that period), he finished his career in 1996 and went on to coaching FHK Liepājas Metalurgs[2].
