Jürgen Klopp (born 16 June 1967 in Stuttgart) is a German football manager, currently in charge of Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
He was the manager of 1. FSV Mainz 05 for 8 years. During this period he led the team to its first appearance in the German Fußball-Bundesliga. Prior to his managing career he has played as a Striker and Defender for Mainz 05 from 1990 to 2001, beeing deployed in 340 games.
During his managment the club also qualified for the UEFA Cup 2005-06. In the qualification he beat Armenian side FC MIKA and Icelandic side Keflavík ÍF, but in the main tournament his side lost to Sevilla FC - the team that later won the tournament.
In 2007, Mainz were relegated, but he remained manager for another season. However, due to the fact that Mainz did not achieve promotion, he left the job after the 2007-08 season; in May 2008, he was appointed as the new manager of Borussia Dortmund. He signed a two-year contract at the club, which had finished in a disappointing 13th place under previous manager Thomas Doll.
