Jüdischer Kulturbund
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Jüdischer Kulturbund (Jewish Cultural Union), also known as the Kubu, an institution created by the Nazis "for" the Jewish population.
Within the framework of the Kulturbund, Jewish entertainers (until then no longer permitted by the National Socialist regime to appear before audiences) once again were allowed to perform, albeit exclusively at authorized segregated venues with "Jewish only" attendance.
The Kulturbund's activities none the less were embraced by the Jewish population who previously were barred from all cultural and entertainment events.
Observers state that, ironically, the Kubu produced what amounted to the best theatre, cabaret, concerts, opera, conferences, etc. in Germany during the Nazi era.[who?] See also Max Ehrlich.
