Jörg Breuning: - It is all about passion -
I am born on the 7th day of July in nineteen-hundred-sixty-two in Stuttgart, Germany. It is the hometown of the first car (Gottlieb Daimler) and the first car manufacturer Daimler-Benz (today DaimlerChrysler). I grew up and lived there my entire life...Ok, until 2002 where I went into my biggest endeavour: starting a company in the United States of America as a division of my German company which is now an equal owned company together with Peter Philippi. Roof greening - a specialized landscaping on roof garden and on green roofs – is still a new market in the USA and many requests from there made this step to a logical consequence. I have been travelled all over the world and between 1985- 2002 I spent at least 8 vacations in the USA (never less than 4 weeks). Anyway in 1987 I knew my mission will be bringing green roof to the US and start a company there. With the patience of a gardener it finally worked out and I am in the middle of my mission now. It was the right choice because of three reasons: - People with advanced skills from Germany do have a unique change on this huge country and market. - Nobody else in the world appreciates more this skills and knowledge transfer than the Americans. - It was my dream since nearly 20 years. This reasons and being a gardener makes me to the lucky person you can see on the picture. It is more than 25-year-old passion and the dream that green roofs grow all over. It is worth that you learn more about it because it isn't just a trend.
My first project in the USA and the first project according modern green roof technology in the entire United States: City Hall of Chicago. I can't post pictures here but feel free to contact me: jbi@greenroofservice.com
Sometimes I am looking at Wikipedia "Green Roofs" at it is amazing to see how people are interested in the topic and how the English spoken market develops. However people are also posting information that sound interesting but aren't based on any experience or knowledge. Looking at the disadvantages of green roofs, it makes me angry when reading about "attracting non native" insects. If people would just research a little more and understand what is and was done in Germany things would look different. Do you know the live circle of a dragon fly and how to support that? I know.
Working with nature requires a lot of experience over a very, very long time. I am not claiming I know all about green roofs but I would like to see others to be careful in what they are saying, special when they don’t really know or understand the whole thing. I am also not a big friend of reinventing the wheel.
If you agree, be quiet and if you don’t agree, let me know.
